I’ve decided to invest in some decent cleaning products for my new car and have read a lot of people on this forum using meguiars cleaning range, something about a three stage wash or something similar? Since the search is on its arse could you show me what products it is that you use? The car is black if that makes any differance.

Had a look on the site but there is a huge range of stuff and I’m not really sure what is I need. I’m guessing a car shampoo, clay, polish and wax? Also if any of you know a good product for cleaning alcantara it would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Richy.

I use the meg 3 step system consisting of the following

Meguires Stage 1 Paint Cleaner
Meguires Stage 2 Polish
Meguires Stage 3 Wax

Before applying any of these products i wash the car with Meguires NXT Car Wash using the Meguires Lambs wool wash mitt using the two bucket method. I then dry the car with meguires water magnet drying towel. Then apply the above products in numerical sequence using applicator pads and microfibre towels to buff off.

To get a better shine after this i will wash the car after a week say then apply Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection.

I might get shot down in flames for this but I've never really been that impressed with Meg's stuff. It is good but so are a lot of other products out there. Both the NXT and Gold Class car wash for example whilst they work well they don't represent good VFM. Having said that I've never tried their clay bar.

For polish I would recommend AutoGlym Super Resin Polish which seems to do the job on pretty much any colour. For wax I'd always go for a solid carnuba wax. Personally I use Harly Wax but I also hear good things about others.

I read something about alcantara on a different forum, I'll see if I can dig up what they recommended.

-Megs Gold class wax
-Megs NXT car wash
-Megs Quick detailing clay kit
-Megs NXT Quick detailer
-AutoGlym Wheel Cleaner
-AutoGlym Wheel Sealant

Makes my car nice and shiny anyways :D

Hi there

If your cars paint is reasonably OK then I'd advice the following:-

Meguiars NXT Wash
Meguiars Lambs Wool wash mitt
Meguiars Even Coat applicator pads
Meguiars HD Cleaner wax (This is fantastic, its like a polish and wax combined)
Meguiars Supreme Shine Microfibre

Other highly recommended products are Eurow ultra large drying towels along with collonite 476s wax.

The weekend just gona I did all the above to the CSL and then finished off with a coat of collonite 476s wax to protect the paint/shine. The car now looks wet when dry and it repels dirt very effectively which means less need for washing. Collonite 476s is the best I've ever used and this can be seen by how water beads from the car. :)

For wheels just get a sponge or old mitt and put some effort in. For real tough marks use tar remover or get yourself some Meguiars wheel brightner.

Cheers for the info guys, think I’m going to plump for this lot. It’s all from the same site, some of the stuff you guys mentioned wasn’t for sale so I had to change a couple of things. Never spent so much on car cleaning products  But I suppose that lot should last a fair while though and give good results.

High Tech Applicator Pad (2 pack)
Supreme Shine Microfibre
Water Magnet Drying Towel
Lambswool Wash Mitt
Deep Crystal Step 3 - Wax
Deep Crystal Step 2 - Polish
Quik Clay Detailing System
NXT Car Wash (Large)

How’s that look?

The megs wax and polish is so so tbh, the water magnet is rubbish.

I would only use the qwik clay,NXT car wash and wash mitt out of that lot.

I would go with Autoglym super resin polish, its pretty good for the cash and it has fillers so can mask light swirls, and its rated by the experts.

Collinite wax is brilliant for longevity, poorboys and nattys give a slightly better finish, but last nowhere near as long.

Megs retail stuff is over priced, and is a poor performer in all honesty, if you want off the shelf stuff then AG is far better, the super resin and extra gloss protection is superb.

Hi there

Agreed on the water magnet, the Eurow and sonus stuff is much better for drying towels.

However the Megs polish and wax are OK and the Cleaner wax is superb.
Collonite I think its ace stuff, last for ages and for me the finish is ample good enough. :)

You got links for any sites that sell the products you mentioned? Had a look at a few sites now and haven’t seen any of that stuff.

Cheers

Hi there

OcUK sells the Meguiars products, for other stuff you will have to find for yourself. :)
