I have 4 x 2Gb Kingston KHX8500D2K2 that I am trying to get working in the board. All modules pass memtest on their own, if I try to run two of them in Dual Channel mode, they give errors in Memtest86 V2.0.

They always error at the 4032.1Mb & 4095.9 Point. I have tried upping the voltage to 2.2v, and 2.3v. byut still they error, I have tried shifting from bank one to bank two, still the errors. The slots all work fin ein single channel mode. What is wrong ????

Try bumping up the MCH voltage (NB voltage) a couple of increments - it's usually required when utilising all 4 slots, and may help resolve your problems even running just 2 sticks.

Keep the memory voltage at 2.2/2.3V for now (the recommended voltage for 8500 Kingston running at 1066) - only look at trying to reduce this once/if you get the system stable. However, this may or not be possible as some sticks do require the full 2.2V to run at 8500 settings.

cant even get it to pass memtest with two sticks in :(

Is this with the memory at 2.2V and the MCH bumped up a couple of increments? If it was what was the MCH value? (also did you try the alternate slots with the new settings?)

A few more questions i'm afraid:

  • Is this a new a build or is the memory new to the sytem?
  • If it's not a new build has it ever worked in dual channel with other memory?
  • What's your complete spec?
  • If it isn't a new build did you have any other stability problems?
  • What are your core system voltage settings and memory timings?

In the mean time i would try 2 sticks again but with slacker timings and similar DRAM/MCH voltage settings.

just stuck all four sticks in, and am going to see how it goes, got it past the errors with the two sticks, now just need to work on the four sticks.

I would advise you to concentrate on just getting 2 sticks stable first and once you're certain that they are (few hrs of memtest) then work on getting 4 sticks established using the stable core settings for running 2 sticks as your foundation.

Having said all that, if you succeed with your first attempt run with it ;)

Good luck.

He shoots he scores, past the point of the previous errors. Lets leave that running to see how it goes.

Memtest86 V2.00 Test #4 complete without errors.

Test #5 running. phew.

Excellent, a nice, simple solution, let's hope in continues to behave itself.

You may find that you're able to lower you memory voltages 0.1V or 0.2V but i would wait for a couple of weeks until you're absolutely sure the system is stable in all areas (But leave the new MCH value.).
