Messenger for mac, fails to connect often?

I've got a bit of a problem with the messenger for mac software that comes with mac for office 2008. Basically I can access my emails just fine using mail on it but the messenger program hardly ever connects saying that the service is down or the internet connection isn't working.

Ideas?

windows live suck massive on mac i am use amsn at the mo which everyone would just move over to ichat lol
