Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes or MGS1 (PS1)

I'm in agreement with everyone who said the Twin snakes cutscenes ruined snakes character. Still enjoyed playing the game! But the whole game lost its artistic flare, I actually think the limited ability of the PSX and low polygon count with regards to the faces in the original MGS added to its charm.

Overall the first game was much better, The remake on Gamecube was enjoyable, but was definitely missing character and a lot of the original substance.

Forgive my bluntness, but...source? Considering the changes that the outside help made to Twin Snakes, I find it hard to believe that it's any more akin to what MGS1 should have been, than MGS1 was in the first place. Especially when you consider the awful changes they made to the soundtrack, and the frankly terrible pacing and delivery of dialogue in some cutscenes. Some of the most moving cutscenes from MGS1 (like Sniper Wolf's death) lose their impact significantly due that. The Twin Snakes version comes across as cheesy

No problems. Games TM had a 4 page retrospective a few issues back that went over each game. It had lots of interviews from the guys who did the localization/acting etc. One of them in particular (the translator from MGS2) was particularly harsh on the creator and it turns out a lot of his work was re-written or edited. The one example that springs to mind is the naming of "the sneaking suit" from the "stealth suit" etc.

Doh, massive error there, especially considering i played mgs through at least 5 times!

Meh, I knew what you meant. I think the Ocelot battle was totally ruined by the addition of the MGS2 gameplay features, first person shooting in that boss battle completely kills the way it was originally meant to be played. I guess there's no point banging on about it though, I think the original MGS is head and shoulders above it in every aspect barring graphics, others will disagree.

I think the cut scenes and dialogue in general were worse in twin snakes. The voice actors and scripts were much more moving and less cheesy in mgs1 although mgs1 is already cheesy as hell. The soundtrack and voice acting went amazing together in the cut-scenes.

Why they had to change grey fox's voice i do not know.

meh^
