A few photos of the helicopters supporting the final training exercise for the troops who will be deploying on HERRICK 16 this year....

On the photography side, I've gone for a more processed look for a change. Comments welcome!

Great photo's and I've just been checking out your other work on the website, very nice.

Aircraft photography is on my list of things to try, anywhere that you can suggest going in Wales, preferabling south/west wales ?

Thanks

Thanks for the reply.

Sadly Wales has suffered with the defence cuts. RAF Valley on Anglesey still has flying (Hawks) but with the number of fast jet students has been cut back making it a lot quiter than usual. Valley does get visitors ever so often (helicopters operating in the mountains, Red Arrows and fuel stops for aircraft on the ranges). All tthough could be a long drive depending how far South you are.

The low level training area is an option as well but again it's significantly quieter than it was in years passed.

Aviation photography involves a lot of driving theses days!

great shots and the processing really brings out the detail and make them stand out

Thanks. The processing seem to have divided people. Some people like it, some people hate it.

Great pictures! Seriously now... who in their right minds would **** with an Apache? :o

I wouldn't fancy being on the receiving end! They are doing great work in Afghanistan.

Cracking shots, slight critique would be that they would present better without the rotors cropped in the first couple.

What did you shoot this on, etc? These are tac sharp but theres still motor blur!

Thanks for the reply, always happy to get feedback on my photos.

The Apaches (photos 2 and 3) I didn't have a choice about as they are pretty much full frame.

The Merlin in photo 1 I could have zoomed out and got the rotors in but the blades are that large that they make the body very small at 1000px.

Here is an Apache with full blades to compare....

They were all shot on a pair of Nikon D300s and a Nikon 70-200 f/2.8 VR and 300 f/2.8 VR with a shutter speed of 1/125s to 1/250s.
