Minecraft OCuK Forum Members Server Thread

Server had roll back again, I understand by what players are saying on the server that this is a host MP problem & not a minecraft one.
So if its not fixed in the next few days & we keep on getting roll backs I will be shutting the server down.
Also windle's server has had 10+ players on with no roll backs at all.
I will only rent a server form MP as they are easy to manage, it starts getting stressful whe players start losing there work.
I have sent MP a ticket about it so it's in there hands now. If it gets no better then maybe windle will be happy to host the OcUK server.
 
My server is still running, just waiting on someone responding to my ticket with the host as the hey0 update doesn't seem to work atm.

I will keep the server I am hosting going that way players can chose what server to play on as the game is now at beta there could be a need for two servers.
If this is a MP only problem then I am sure they will fix it soon but as its xmas it could take a few days.
This way the players who can handle roll backs for the time being can stay building on the server I am hosting as the roll backs will be fixed I am sure in a few days time like last time we started a new world.
The players who can't can start a world on windle's server.

I have also setup a temp /warp point to the new spawn named /warp spawn
I can't move the spawn to the new point yet as it makes the ground around it protected so you can't build there, I have just changed the server setting to stop this from happing so as soon as we have a rollback or I restart the server I will then move the spawn to it's new site.
As it needs a reboot for the new settings to work.

Server shop to set up next apeZ, the shop has a endless supply of goods so it never runs out.

Server shop....

Players will not be able to sell Dirt or Sand.
The BUY to SELL ratio will be 4 to 1 ( Wood to buy 40 - Wood to sell 10 )
Players will be dealing in 'cobblestone' as this is the basic building blocks of the game & it's what you get when you mine smothstone.
The price of cobblestone to buy or sell from the shop will be 1 cobblestone for a single block this is the only item that has the same buy to sell ratio.
All prices of the other items are to be based around the single cost of cobblestone.
To make a item cheaper them 1 cobblestone you will need to offer the item in a stack of say 10, so to buy dirt cheaper then 1 cobblestone it could be stack of 10 dirt for 1 cobblestone.
The price of 1 diamond, redcobblestone, lightstone, I would like to be set at about 1000 cobblestone, we need to make sure the server shop does not just endup as a easyway to get mats like dupping was.
Diamond tools can be a lot cheaper as you can't turn tools back into raw mats, may be something like 100 cobblestone.

I have chosen to trade in cobblestone as I think it makes it a bit more of a real item to trade with, bit cave man yes but still real as it's basic.
Someone could ask you to help clear some land for you & pay you 400 cobblestone, you do the job they send you 400 cobblestone (you dont get cobblestone blocks so they will not fill your bags) to turn them in to cobblestone you buy them from the shop.
So for your work you can use the 400 cobblestone to build a small house or make your house bigger.

Now this is where setting shop prices gets hard, you could set the price of -
glass at 10 cobblestone for 1 block,
sand at 5 cobblestone for 1 block,
coal at 15 cobble for 1 block.
With the prices shown it would be cheaper to buy glass ready made then to buy the raw mats & make it yourself, this is what we don't want to happen.

Got a mail back from my ticket about server roll backs.
MP have changed some settings to the server so it should now be fixed.
For all there short comings MP do work everyday of the year to help.
 
Sounds great garsands. I haven't been on today as I've been visiting relatives, but I'll be on in a bit and I'll try and sort some prices out :)

Do you want me to modify and post up a price list? Also, do you want every item on the list for sale? Any restrictions? Do we need a physical hub to buy/sell stuff too? I don't know how it works in-game.

Yes please, just do the to buy list as I can do the sell back list all I need to do is / by 4

No but I will leave it to you, may be just do the basic ones first so we can get the shop started then add items as we go. But keep the list in the same order as it is now, just leave the price as '0' if you don't want it to be on the shop for now.

TNT or if you want to sell it make it a high price like 5000 cobblestone, that would be same for gunpowder.

Players can use a command to list the shops buy & sell prices for items
or
We could display some of the items like in a server shop for players to walk in and look at the items for sell with prices on a sign. I did this for a while on the old world.

You could just make loads of signs on a wall listing the prices.

What is confusing is the mod uses names for the items that don't match 100% with what minecraft names items, so when you have finshed I will need to test the shop to make sure all the items are for sell that you ment to be.
Would have been easyer if the mod used the minecraft item codes to set up the shop. You can buy & sell using the item codes or names but not to set it up.

Like I said the hard part is making sure it does not cost cheaper to buy a item ready made then it does to make it yourself.
It's not a easy job.

Things like armor/weapons & food should cost a lot to buy as I think players are planning to set up shops to sell to other players so the server shop must not under cut them.

Tools can be cheap ish as it's no fun if you can't mine & are also a item that can be cheaper to buy ready made then to make.

I also may change the BUY to SELL ratio on some items.

The shop is here add something extra to the game but not to make easyer for players to build its more of a rich hard working players shop, the more you mine & sell the better items you can get to add to your buildings to give a sgin of weath.

I will not be building any big diamond blocked buildings on this server so any big posh buildings will be a sign that a player has worked for it.

Garsands do you still intend to give every player a 'vault' that only they can teleport into?

Yes I do was just saying about it on the server it's my next job to do, but I can't do it till the server is empty as I need to clear a huge amount of space underground at the base of the world out of the way.
I will be doing this using a command but it may crash the server in doing so & I can't risk that while players are on.

If I can't find a time on Monday when there's not meny on I will do a world save then warn the players that the server may crash, if it does I just have to reload the world save.
 
I am going to have to anyway looking at the xmas new year opening hours for such changes.

The problem you are going to have is all you are going to see from the outside is a 198 x 198 bedrock cude & if it was under the spawn it would also start just below gound level & go all the way down to the bedrock base of the world.
You could have steps going down to each vault but as there are no doors the steps would lead no where.
 
I have now moved the spawn to the new site but I have not placed it where you wanted it vincent1989 as the room is to small it needs to be 4x the size as when you die you don't always spawn at the same block, so players could get trapped.

I have given the opl spawn a warp point named 'oldspawn'

Can you see if you can still build around the new spawn I have added a command that should have removed the auto protect you get around spawns.

fluffymushroom's building in the sky don't worry about it just get on with your buildings lets see what it looks like when its finshed before you start to ask for it to be moved.

Server rule number 6. reads 'No sky bridges less then 4 blocks wide & don't have supports to the ground to keep them up (gravity defying), they must be well lit to stop mods from spawing on then'
Says nothing about buildings in the sky, please remember this is a free build server what one player likes some other players may hate.
As has already been said I can always move it.

I have been getting a few mails in trust about players wanting to send me funds.

On the 04/01/11 I will up the servers slots to 20 or 24 as thats when the new payment starts.

With your town around the spawn is anyone free to build out side of its walls ?
or do you want X amount of blocks from the wall for the free build zone to start ?

Do you see my post about the space you have given the spawn point ?

I have also not forgotten about the vaults yes they can go under the spawn I am just finding it hard to get on the server myself as it busy, but I my have to just logon & someone will have to be dropped out & also it may crash the server but I nedd to get it done. World save would be done first.
