Like the LOTR idea, but I can't help because I'll get frustrated at scale sizes not being correct to the nearest meter.

I did think of getting everyone to try making the Titanic (again) on a 1:1 scale. Not quite as big (but still huge) and I'm sure there are detailed blueprints somewhere on the internet...

when we did the Parthenon it worked out roughly twice the size of the original as if we did it smaller the columns would have looked bad.

apeZ that's a great idea. God knows how much lag the server will get if we explore out that far though. And garsands will cry every time he tries to do a render.

True that... also reminds me - garsands would you ever consider putting in a map limit, so that it doesn't extend forever? This will also mean people have a more limited area to work within so we should see a lot more stuff. At the moment, other than the spawn area, lots of stuff is spread quite far apart which is a shame!

If there is a bit more interest in the LOTR idea, I'd be happy to contribute towards another server. Perhaps we should start smaller though - Titanic isn't a bad call. If we can find something original and with blueprints of some sort, that would be fantastic. I'm kinda put off when other people have done stuff before, but afaik no-one has done a full recreation of Middle-Earth although some have taken specific parts e.g. Isengard, Rivendell etc and recreated those.

I could add the Borderlands mod to limit the map size but players like to explore & not everyone wants to build next to each other.
A few players have used whole islands to build on they could not do things like this if the map was limited.
I can add /warp points to make moring about easyer.

Re the lag on the server.

Minecraft: Increased Lag
Dec 02 2010 17:33:47 by Deehem
We've been tracking down the increased lag people have been seeing with minecraft servers & believe the cause to be this update from Tuesday:
* Increased chunk saving frequency on the server

The issues caused by this come down to the server saving world data more often, as such creating a higher Input/Output on the machines hard drives which leads to lag issues :-(

UPDATE: We've been in contact with the developers of Minecraft and made them aware of this issue. They plan on adding a configurable option to change this frequency on Monday. We're sorry for any inconvenience caused by this issue.

No offense to dragonaertt intended, but is it just me that finds all these single-posters joining not really right? It's a OcUK community server. People registering on the forums just for access on the server doesn't feel right.

Of course I'll just shut up and go stand in the corner if I'm alone in this thought :).

Personally, to avoid griefing I would implement a rule whereby only members that would have access to MM (ie 250 posts and 3 months since registering) or those that have been guaranteed by other current players on the whitelist are allowed access to the server.

Dickyb0b being an exception, he appears to be a class A troll all over these forums.

I have no probs with new blood on the server this is why.....

We seem to have a lot of players that build something on the server then leave never to be seen again I say over 50% of players have done this, some then return 3 weeks later only to vet there anger on here coz there building has been set on fire or has huge holes have damaged there buildings.
I have no time for these players if your just going to logon & build something then leave for weeks do we really need you ?
They don't mantain there buildings I have buildings on there server that have been on fire for weeks, I have holes in paths & side of walls that have been there for over a week.
Soon I am going to start pulling any buildings that have just been left in a state because there owners can't even be bothered to matain or even log back on to the server every now & again.
This is why I protected a large space around the spawn so I did not have these players that just seem to want to make there mark on the server then leave.
It's the same players that come back weeks later & start blaming players for damaging there work.
I hear this .......
Whos set my house on fire ...................... If your not going to be very bright & use lava & wood next to each other then your house is going to go up in flames when the mod no longer works due to a patch (btw the lava mod is no longer used on the server due to this)
Whos made a huge hole in my house or whos made a creeper blow up in my house............. How about YOU matain your own house YOU logon to the server every other day to make sure it's up togeather YOU make sure your house is now monster proof.
If your house starts to look like a mess becasue YOU don't matain it then other players are not going to matain it for YOU.

So I welcome one post poster on to the server I like one post posters more then I like players with 100 posts who build then leave not to be seen for weeks just so they can make there mark on the server.

People seem to think if a player only has one post then they are going to start messing with others work, someone with 100 post can do that just as much & it just as much of a risk.

If you are new to player minecraft online & but you have been playing it off line then please remember online play is very much broken it's more in alpha then single player, yes there is lag, yes there are bugs, the lag is not server lag it's due to buggy minecraft coding.

I disagree with a person with 1 post being as much risk of being a griefer as a person with a few hundred posts. A person with a single post has nothing to lose if he just creates an account and is allowed to grief on the server, where as someone whos been on this forums for longer would not want to risk being hated on the forums which he has been a member for a long time.

Not all people are like this, there could be people with thousands of posts and will quite happily be a griefer, but in my opinion they are much less likely than a person who has a single post and is 'unkown' to anyone here. I don't pay for the server so you don't have to listen to me, but I quite like Darg's suggestion.

At the end of the day the most fun will be a server where people can work together to create fun stuff. If you let everyone in with no restrictions then there will be a few that can ruin the fun of many. You wonder why people build stuff then leave for weeks, perhaps its because they don't want to make something on a server that has griefers ruining their work.

I was going to turn off fall & damage by lava today thinking it would come under the PVP setting but it does not so it can't be turned off.
I have looked at mods but there doe's not seem to be one.

The only thing that bugs me is players who build towers to get into your property, or deliberately mine through your walls etc. because they can't be bothered to find the door, only to *not* repair the damage they made. It's just bloody rude.

Where as someone whos been on this forums for longer would not want to risk being hated on the forums which he has been a member for a long time.

But they can do this when no one is on the server with out being caught with no risk.

You wonder why people build stuff then leave for weeks, perhaps its because they don't want to make something on a server that has griefers ruining their work.

I never knew we had griefers ruining players work.
I know we have players happy to blame players for doing damage before they look at the facts first.

I don't wonder why people build stuff & never return I never said I did.
They build stuff & never return due to wanting to make there mark on the server, getting fed up with new bugs, (block lag, server lag, mosters they cant see killing them, house going up in flames due to lava & wood, bored ect.

The players building stuff & never returning is a common problem with minecraft servers if you look on the minecraft forums where players are listing there server for new players they say they don't want players who just build something & leave they want players that are going to stay.

Yes I pay for the server & yes I am not going to please everyone & I am not even going to try.

Yeah, I feel the same about those players (build & leave). Of course they can come and go when they please, but can't expect their build to be in pristine condition when they get back 3 months later. I also think removing abandoned buildings around the spawn area is a good idea. If it's miles away on its own then I guess it's a different matter.

Not sure I agree about the 1 poster thing, but Garsands has done a really good job of managing the server so far, so I'll be quiet on that subject now :).
