Minor accident

You will lose your ncb but you will have to declare an accident which will push the premium up a bit. You'll need to re negotiate your renewal as far as I'm aware.

Trouble is you dont know what the extent of the damage actually is - if the crash bar is damaged it'll need replaced too, probably not at low speed but insurance work is priced phenomenally. 1K may not be far off what they'll charge to repair - privately a couple of hundred

Do you not mean I 'won't' lose my NCB? I mean, it's protected and that's the whole point I'm paying extra, right?

Yes, apologies - still have the same ncb but you will need to declare the accident which has an impact

Can't win then. Protected or non protected no claims bonus, I still end up paying more. But I guess it'll still be cheaper because of my protection.

TBH no claims bonus is a con. Having protected no claims is a waste of time because it now means having a high NCB doesn't necessarily mean a low-risk driver.
I ran some premium checks a while back and the difference between 4, 5 and 6 NCB was.. £0.
What helps is number of years past your test and no accidents. Age also a bit.

Well no, the base price they will charge you goes up, you'll still get the same % discount on it though as you had before.

Say price without claim £800- 40%
Price now after claim £1000 - 40%

That's how I understand it anyhow.

So the people I hit have now put their claim in and apparently they're claiming for injury and all sorts apparently. Bunch of jokers tbh as the shunt wasn't even as hard as being in a bumper car. Anyway, two investigators on behalf of my insurance underwriters are coming to see me. One on tuesday to do forensic type checks on my car to see what damage (none except a vertical half inch long scratch), and another investigator coming in two weeks to take a statement. He reckons they could be trying it on, so it'll be interesting to see if they get paid for what they're trying to claim for.

Seems very common these days. There's groups of people of course organising these type of accidents!

No matter what, you are liable. But the other folks sound like scammers so hopefully they'll get done!

Keep us informed...

Yeah, when I reported the accident, I was told I'd be the one responsible (not leaving enough space in front of me) so I'm not denying anything. Yeah, I hope they get done too. The two passengers and driver had no problem in immediately getting out the car when the accident happened. There's no way there was any injury. But I suppose it depends on if they got some confirmation of injury from a doctor to show the insurance company.

Sounds too much like the scam scenarios that have been in the news tbh.

I'd be pushing for an investigation to be done where possible and would be trying hard to find a witness to show how soft the accident was.

Did the polo hit the car in front of it too?

I'll swear the insurance companies are really tightening up on this now, with medical examination/evidence required etc?

Tbh in this sort of scenario I'd be taking photos of all occupants in the car and some form of id to make sure those who claim are those who were in the car!

I was gonna take photos but my phone battery was dead. No, the polo didn't hit the car in front. There were no witnesses involved and certainly impossible to find any now.
