Miss Holocaust Survivor......the winner is????

Its not inappropriate at all when the survivors volunteered to do that and were more than happy to speak about their experiences.

Exactly and it all goes towards giving awareness to a terrible event which should never be allowed to happen again. They are allowed to add a touch of humour to their appalling experiences.

I do wonder about the so called intellectual arguments being put forward and their motive. I hate the whiff of antisemitism in the morning.

Are they trying to compare it on the same level as you are to neo nazi / war criminal groups? Show me a quote where they are otherwise its really just you being an Anti Semite here.

Bhavv, you are either not intelligent enough to understand the reasons for the comparison as applied to your justification or you are simply trolling and using it as an excuse to attack me personally......

Yeah....cool...I am an antisemite for finding something inappropriate.......Would you like to explain exactly how finding something that I think devalues and cheapens the sacrifices of the Jewish people is anti semitic?

I may not live up to your expectations of 'intelligent enough' and I have not claimed to, but then neither do you live up to your own expectations either

I cant see any valid reason for why you are purposefully trying to demonize such a valid, peaceful, and enjoyable event for all the people who were involved with your lame comparisons to neo nazis and war criminals.

Lol..........trololololol

I suppose everyone else is trying to demonise it as well....including the Holocaust Survivors groups who are equally critical.

Oh **** off with your antisemetic accusations, seriously. Disagreeing with Jews does not make you antisemetic. I don't mean to sound rude, simulatorman, but it's a term that gets thrown around far too often, which is one of reason people have problems with Jews - they're far too quick to play the antisemetic card.

I am not even disagreeing with Jews....I am supportive of awareness of the Holocaust and think it is something that should be done more often....however I do not agree that judging survivors in the way this pageant has is entirely appropriate and demeans the message somewhat.

It is not antisemitic....quite the opposite.

No they arent:

All they have said is that they find it macabre. They havnt tried comparing it to such things as you think are its equal.

Like I said was illustrating how illogical your justification was, not comparing one with the other.

Which was pretty obvious, but as always you decide it is an excuse to make stuff up and attack me personally...which simply illustrates the desperation of your justification to begin with.

Bhavy,
99% of the forum think Castiel is right, on almost every topic he is right, even when people think he may be wrong he is usually right.

Please just shut up, this is like monkeys arguing with Steven Fry and it is painful to read.
Every time you pull this stunt with Castiel you end up looking like a ****, give it a rest eh?

It seems a little bit odd to me but that may have something to do with the terming of it as a beauty pageant. I'm just not sure that the judging of someones physical beauty, even as a small part of the criteria, has anything much to do with the Holocaust. Nor indeed for that matter is the suggestion that there can be winners (and implicitly also losers) with regard to the experiences and horrors of the Holocaust - that just seems a little distasteful.

I suspect if it were simply a celebration of the survivors lives without a contest of sorts being involved that it would have offered a lot less for anyone to object to. It's great that the survivors can have a bit of fun long after their experiences but to suggest there are winners and losers somehow seems to lessen the point. It's also always worth remembering that the Holocaust affected many more groups than the Jews alone, a truly terrible event that we should all hope will never be repeated in any form.

...

to a certain extent I do agree as they have survived the HC and basically they can deal with their experiences whatever way they like. Yes they are allowed, but this doesn't mean I have to like it or support it.

From my personal view there are things which are to "monstrous" and complex for humour or light entertainment.
I'm German, I have been to numerous KZ's and once you have seen a lampshade made out of human skin; humour/light entertainment is out of question.

I'm a bit reluctant to the "raise awareness" (raise awareness for skin cancer, raise awareness of poverty blabla) argument which is overused and I'm now starting to despise to a certain degree.

I believe that this topic needs to be dealt with via the right channels (school, museum, information sites) and I doubt that a "Miss Holocaust" event even remotely the right approach or introduction to this topic.

It would be better if you posted more often because you nail it everytime.

This is exactly the issue I have.

Having received 0% education on the Holocaust, Hitler or WW 1+2 during my compulsory history classes up to age 14 at school, I would have loved to have been able to attend an event like this where I could hear about the holocaust from no one other than its survivors.

I 100% support this event, and I would attend just to hear the survivors speak about their life experiences.

The 'beauty Pegeaueant' part of it (or however you spell that evil word) was just meant to be a fun twist on the event to provide it from an angle where the women involved were having a good time and enjoying themselves, I cant see any valid reason why I should find that bad in any way.

Ignorance is bliss.

One of the more popular types of porn in Israel is holocaust porn. They have an inferiority complex of some sort I reckon.

LOL that is funny :D

Pornography with a fantasy of Jewish men being 'abused' by female Nazis. You learn something new everyday.

...and the bad taste award goes to...

So would it be bad taste listening to war veterans about war?
