I had an appointment for a job interview this afternoon at 2pm, I ended up leaving late, then the tube was far slower than usual and I got lost and couldnt find the place, basically I arrived at 2:30 and chickened out of going to it since I thought theres no point turning up now. I just now received a voicemail message wondering if I was coming for the interview and if anything had happened.
So basically I need an excuse! What in the world could be a credible excuse, so that I can rearrange an appointment!

ps comedy and serious replies allowed!;)

pps - my thoughts were either

a) My mobile and wallet were stolen on the way. (quite ridiculous)
b) I thought the interview was for Thursday. (even more ridiculous and probably wouldnt get the job with this excuse!)

You got a message saying the job had gone - you thought it was them.

Could have been anything in truth, wrong number, something you applied for but had heard nothing from etc.

Just tell them you got lost and were so late you didn't think it would be worth turning up?

Basically the truth!? Its still a little lame. (I do realise that what did did was lame tho:o)

simply tell them that a close friend needed taking to the hospital after a DIY accident or a family member had a car accident, your sister was having a baby.

Either of those, with a heartfelt apology will probably get you an interview.

A hospital excuse is a good one as you can say that you a) had your phone off due to hospital rules or b) you left it in the car in the rush. Either of these will be a good excuse for not calling them straight back.

If it's a low level position and he's young maybe. If he's applying for a senior position they'll laugh him outta town.

Its a second jobbers position, so best not use the truth..

One I've used, and was true:

Was on holiday for a week up north, building a PC for parents. Installed software and connected to internet to update drivers etc, checked my email and discovered I had an interview that day in an hour!

Rang them up and postponed. Got the job too, even though I turned up in suit and trainers. Had left the shoes at my parents!

oh oh oh, here's a good one - run into a lamp post a few times and say you were mugged.

Sympathy AND the perfect excuse, your onto a winner :D

I would just forget about it to be honest - how embarassing.

You were foolish, learn and move on.

Yeh, I probably should but I could give it a try..
