Hi,

I've very recently got BeThere broadband connected (just moved into a new flat, so plumped for the pro 24mb one :D).

Anyways, my laptop works fine with it via wireless, rock solid connection, internet works fine etc.

Now, for some bizarre reason my missus' laptop connects to the wireless network fine, but after a few minutes it loses the internet connection (eg when she tries to view webpages it comes back with a "Server not found" error message in Firefox).

Any idea how I can fix this?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Cheers,

Fred

Hi

If you have changed your wireless access point/router lately it might be a driver issue on the laptop. Go to the manufacture website of the wireless card built in to the laptop and download/install the latest driver.

If the above does not work it could be that the installed OS on the laptop is pulling the power to the mini PCI card. Try disabling the onboard wireless connection and then re-enabling it (XP - Start\Control Panel\Network Connections then right click your wireless connection and choose disable. To re-enable just right click it again and click enable - Vista - Start\Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Centre\Manage Network Connections)

The last thing to try is to see if its a DNS (Domain Name System). When the issues arises again open a command prompt (Start\All Programs\Accessories\Command Prompt) and type the following 'ping 72.14.253.104' (Without the '') and hit enter. If you do not recieve a reply from the IP address (see below for a correct reply) it could be a DNS issue and I would reset your router.

Pinging 72.14.253.104 with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 72.14.253.104: bytes=32 time=58ms TTL=1
Reply from 72.14.253.104: bytes=32 time=56ms TTL=1
Reply from 72.14.253.104: bytes=32 time=56ms TTL=1
Reply from 72.14.253.104: bytes=32 time=57ms TTL=1

Ping statistics for 72.14.253.104:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0%
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 56ms, Maximum = 58ms, Average = 56ms

Cheers for the advice :)

Will give it a crack when I get home from work today.

I suspect it is more likely related to DNS / DCHP etc, as the laptop connects to the wireless network fine, but then can't access the internet via the router.
