Well I've had the ST200 for a while now and am thinking of selling it into the new year and getting a Mitsubishi Evo VI as a replacement, I'm budgeting to spend around 10K.....thoughts anyone?

Good idea, bad idea...any personal experiences with said car...?

Get yer bum over to the MLR , wealth of knowledge over there. Main concerns are:

Expensive insurance
Stupid economy
4500 miles service interval
Eats tyres
Standard Brembos have a disc warping problem
Parts = expensive

Apart from that i'd lick one from top to bottom.

1.similar to other cars in it's class.
2.similar to other cars in it's class.
3.compared to 6k miles intervals on some competitors it's not THAT bad.
4.similar to other cars in it's class.
5.i'm fairly sure they've rectified this problem now although you may be more informed on this than i am.
6.fair play, mitsi bits are never cheap.

and i'd be at the next wheel well, licking the thing clean too,lol...although i much prefer the look of the later cars to that of the evo 6.

my mates mates has just brought a nice yellow evo 6. i think they look awsome

Where did he bring it from?

To the OP: If you can afford the servicing and the running costs, go for it! They look, sound, and go awesome!

An evo 6 WILL be more though! :o

Guy on the gti6 site bought a TME after his gti6 (which isn't a cheap car to run for what it is!) and the costs are shocking! MPG is a complete joke :p

EVO6 TME...nice.

Define "in its class" - the only car I can think thats close is the Scooby, and they're cheaper, if not signifinantly so.

Lets not beat around the bush here - for what they cost to buy, they are expensive to run. For the performance on offer, its more understandable.

Running costs on the ST200 aren't that cheap I assure you...

I can assure you that an EVO6 will be a hell of a lot more to run than an ST200!

I did *a lot* of investigation into the EVO6 before I bought my Elise. The insurance was absolutely unbelievable. £1500 for the (grp20) Elise, £2500 for the EVO6 TME.
4500 mile service intervals meant I'd be at the dealer every 8 weeks.

However my main concern would be theft/car jacking. They're pretty high on the target list, and I've read some nasty stories about EVO's especially, moreso than Scoobies. That, plus the insurance costs, were enough to put me off.

Just do your research - I'm glad I did mine!

What does it actually need doing every 4500 miles? Why can you not do it yourself? (surely its just fluids?)

Compared to something like an Evo, yes they are.

My old neighbour had a EVO6 and a GT40. I honestly think he ran the GT40 more. They are seriously expensive to run for what they are and you need to garage them over night. Can't park anywhere for to long etc etc.

Imprezzas although not quite the same are a more practical proposition. I would love to own a Evo but by the time you factor in the true running costs there are a lot more cars to be had for the £££.

I could never have an evo for the fear of being nicked at gun/knife point as well as never being able to leave it anywhere and they are silly money to keep on the road. 150miles to a tank of Optimax (£45).

You can't service them yourself if you intend to sell the car, people only want cars with FSH. And £200 every 4500miles soon adds up

Dunno, maybe I am missing something.

Reads like a BMW Inspection 1/2. Check check check, s'all it is, with some fluid replacement. I don't know jack about the AYC other than a vague understanding of what it does, but assuming you can change the fluid in there without a machine it doesn't look that £££

If you bought one, you don't have to take it to a garage aslong you are willing to take a hit on resale value, or buy an older one, or keep it a long time. This is just like the 'must have fbwmsh'. I would take the hit.

I bet there are plenty of us barely breaking 18mpg at the moment, I'm getting 17-20mpg.

I know from the FTO that parts will cost a bomb and that if something breaks you are going to take a hiding in the wallet.

Yeah probably just oil which is sensible on a turbo car.

Just be aware that on a good thrash it turns out 6mpg :o :( :o

Guy on the gti6 forum has had his a fair while now but can not justify the running costs so he is selling it, a TME too if your interested :)

Just read the buyers guide, appears you need the Mitsi diagnostics kit to change the AYC fluid - strange. :/

Don't like all this talk about theft / car jacking, I see a few round here on driveways etc. No car is worth getting woken up at knife point for though..

my friend had an evo 5 for a year, he said its probably one of the most expensive cars this side of a supercar to run.

an impreza is probably a hell of a lot more livable with.
