Mixing RAM stick sizes - performance hit on bad axe 2?

I bought the 4x2gb pc6400 OCZ kit, but I'm having problems.

Basically I've got my cpu maxed (at voltage/temps I'm happy with), switched from 1:1 to 4:5 and 4x2gb just isn't stable, the bandwidth in memtest is ~4200. Removing 2 sticks the bandwidth is the same, but adding 2x1gb sticks (either pc7200 or pc8500, with very different timings) drops the bandwidth to ~3700.

Looking at the spd settings in spdtool they are totally different, I cannot sign up at the OCZ forums as I can't get the picture letters right - it advises you to contact them and on the contact form is another picture, very helpful  so does anyone here know if this is a timing issue or if there is a chipset related performance hit for using different size sticks?

Thanks for any thoughts on this,
