MK4 Golf bonnet catch

The lever inside the car pops the bonnet but when pulling the bit of plastic that sticks out under the bonnet to release the 2nd catch nothing happens, so the bonnet is still held by this catch and won't lift up.

Any ideas how to fix this?
Anyone have a diagram of the bonnet catch 'system' so I can try and figure out which bits move what?

I found this for you-

"on the older ones you can pop out the badge and use a bent screwdriver to unlatch the catch, id imagine the later cars have a sheild to prevent that, you may be able to prise that away with minimal damage
ive also got at the catch from underneath, you may need to remove a lot of splash gaurds to get anywhere...then use a really long screwdriver to unlatch it"
