MK4 Golf GT TDi 110 - Keeps going in to limp mode when accelarating past 2500 -3000 revs

Ohhhh, expensive fix? His DMF is going too!! Not good. :(

The turbo is straight forward to remove as it is easily accessed at the front of the engine but you would really need to get the fault codes read to see what the fault is. If it is the 150bhp 1.9 CDTi this also has swirl flaps in the intake manifold which if faulty can also cause limp mode but it generally puts on the engine management light.

Yeah its the 1.9 red i so 150bhp, will let him know and tell him to get it looked at soon as! A car with a spanner going through it comes on, I gathered this is the limp mode light? I have no clue about the CDTi engine and dash lights etc so very much gratefull for the info :)

Front of the engine ????

I think you might have your backs and fronts mixed up there matey ;)

Im guessing turbo's are hard to get to?

Can we try and keep the specifics of this thread to the VAG group cars, I dont mind if the turbo system in another car is very similar, I just dont want it going AWOL and into a discussion on different system.

Thanks :)

Not massively difficult to get to. Well once you've got all the pipes off out of the way anyway :D
As said though, get it on the vagcom first and check out the codes.
If it has more than one, reset them, go out for a drive until it goes into limp home again
then re-check the codes. If it's overboost then 99% sure it will be stuck vanes.
To confirm that, if you can get hold of one, put a vacuum gauge on the wastgate actuator and see if the rod into the turbo vanes work. If that's solid it's turbo off time.
It's not a complicated mechanism to get apart really either.

Hi sorry. Just seemed a bit pointless having a similar thread about the same kind of thing. Just asking a passing question thats all.

Just because it has a red 'i' doesn't mean it has 150bhp, it could be 100, 110, 115, or 130 some came with a red 'Di' like mine which is a 115, but VW have changed it so much over the years between the models.

Unless he has told you specifically it is the 150 model I wouldn't go just by the red 'i' on the back of the car
