Hi everyone, I am 18 and I am hoping to get a 1998 Mk4 Golf TDI soon as my first car.

Has anyone had any experiance with these cars?

I know the 3 door is more popular than the 5 door although the 5 door really doesn't look too bad.

The insurance isn't a problem, I can get TPFT for £250.

The car is £2000, which I think is quite a bargain ;)

Cheers, Ed.

18 and insurance for 250. Did you miss a 1 off the beginning?

Anyway the car, my Dad had one I think 115PS and it was really nice, the most noticeable point is at 1800rpm or so it would push you back in your seat every time in 1st, even when not pushing it.

It's £250 TPFT with my dad as the Policy Holder and me as a named driver.

That's garaged with factory imobilisor etc...

£2000, surely not, I've seen them for £3.5-4000 for that sort of age Golf

Must surely be a starship enterprise Golf with 250,000 miles? :p

However if it's not then it is indeed a bargain on all accounts :)

Well it used to belong to an old man.

One day he was driving it and the water pipe burst, but he decided to keep driving it.

Inevitably the engine seized.

My brother and his friend then bought the car off the old fella for £350 :p and now they have rebuilt the engine, they are running it in then they are going to get it MOT'd and probably sell it to me (they spent around £650 on it and they want £500 profit each) so they are selling it to me for £2000.

Cheers.

Probably selling it to you or definately?

£10 says they sell it tonight for zero profit because the headlining is ripped.

Ha ha, my dad is going to check it out as well before I buy it ;)

Although I have total trust in my brother as a friend and a mechanic :)

After consulting this thread and your posts in the "Do you wind people up?" thread...

You are Oracle and I claim my £5.

Didn't I already bust Oracle's new account name a few weeks back?

Anyway, I agree with you.

His posting style matches perfectly - Oracle used to bracket words every other sentence and go over the top with exclamation marks too, exactly the same as this guy.

Ok...I'm sorry I asked you guys for help.

I'm not "Oracale"...L337Loox can confirm this if you want...

It's not insurance fraud either, why are you guys all so straight? Christ...

Yes it is. It's people like you that force me to pay £2k+ for my insurance. Your Dad will not be driving the car more than you, meaning YOU are the main driver. Hence, fraud.

If you want assistance in illegal matters, this is not the forum for you.

It isnt always, there are some insurers who know about it and allow it, but with a quote of £250 I doubt this is one of them.

Yeah ok, I have to agree, but as you say, I very much doubt that is the case here.

buy the car and put the logbook on your old mans name then when its insured have yourself put on as a named driver. works fine.

or do what i used to do. go to a scrappy and find the details of a banged up car usually a group 1 insurance corsa or something, then get yourself insured on it. there is a clause in the insurance contract that usually allows you to then drive any car that does NOT belong to you as long as you have the owners permission to drive it.
then start breaking out the high horsepower cars and enjoy the good life. i got pulled over before and they asked to see my insurance details on the cossie i had, easy enough i pull out cover notes and they see that im allowed to drive the car since its owned by my brother and my insurance say i can drive any car that i down own. :D
