MMO trial to leave downloading overnight, which one?

The lack of engine optimisation was the only reason I cancelled my Aion sub too, if it was like that in sanctum, there was no way I was going to be able to play through sieges with a few hundred people taking part.

Don't think anyone's mentioned D&D Online. Another F2P game that was originally a sub game, very very polished and a bit different to the usual mmo in the way you level and the way classes work. Fantastic combat too. The only downside is that it's not a solo game at all. You can do it for a while, but so much more enjoyable in a group.

its still very limited unless you buy the gold limit removal etc and your level limited just like any other trial

Actually you are NOT level limited at all now, the recent update now allows you to do the entire Epic quest line through the entire game (you used to be stopped at Moria/Lothlorien before).

Leveling wise when you run out of the freebie quests to complete, there are still Skirmish's (you get 2 for free, more to buy), and Classic instances (again you get a few for free, more to buy). And fair play to Turbine, they at least allow you an ingame method of earning points, which you can use to buy quest packs, which then earns you more points.

You can pretty much not pay a penny and still unlock a fair part of the game for free using ingame given points.

There are seperate UK and US games. A lot of the F2P'rs are on Imladris, which is a new server that was started when LoTRO when F2P, so you are going to be with other F2P'rs who are levelling like you.

All in all, there is no reason not to give LoTRO a try.

Wise spending of the points you make is the key, friend of mine who started when f2p began is now level 38. He hasnt paid a penny yet, he saved his points and bought quest packs only when they were on sale, so he managed to grab a couple of quest packs for something like 49tps. He hasnt grinded deeds yet, just been playing normally. Obviously if he decided to grind too then he could significantly up the amount of tps he has but so far he has made it to level 38 totally free and has a tidy little pile of points ready for the next quest pack sale :)

should wait a week or two, dc universe is out then and from early reports is shaping up to be immense.

^^ This and then some. I've been playing beta since Nov 2009. It is definitely going to be good. Only problem for me, it's not ready for the Jan 11th release date. Far from it. I think another 3mths tops and then it's ready. Still a few things to iron out.

If you're lucky, and you know where to look, you can find a beta key and try it out yourself.

I have two level 30 characters and I created a thread way back in Jan 2009 called Official DC Universe Online Thread. So have a look in there for more info and what others have said.

Even those who have played CoH and CO have said DCUO is miles better and it's still in beta. So that's saying something. But like I said, Jan 11th is way too soon for it to be released. March or April I would have said.

Lol, I couldn't tell you cos I got mine from Jim Lee via twitter haha. But I would suggest joining the DC Universe Online page on FB and also the DC Nation page too. Also I think Ten Ton Hammer were giving away about 5,000 keys before Xmas. IGN as well were giving away keys. So knock yourself out dude.
