Hi all, I dont have a phone line installed and dont particularly want one at the minute, so mobile broadband is my only option. Do these dongles work with either the PS3 or 360? Would like to get a console but if it doesnt work ill have to build myself a gaming pc to get my modern warfare 2 multiplayer fix :)

Thanks

I hear that when using mobile your NAT will be strict and pin is like 300+ so it won't make for a good gaming experiance.

I can't see how the dongles would work on consoles - don't you need to input login names and passwords and things?

I have a 3mobile one, and you dont need a password or anything, it just has to install itself on which is the bit im worried it wont do...

Hmm interesting, thanks :)

I had a Three dongle and it was terrible for even the most lag friendly games (RTS games).

Don't bother, 300ms latency is crippling.

If you have a friend with one, ask to try it out as they are really something no one can give advice on for speed. I tried one in the office and it worked ok but it only worked in one square foot of the room. Anywhere else and i wasnt even getting a siganl lol

If you have the option of mobile or line then go line. FPS would be unplayable imo.

If you're going to have to pay for a landline install have a look at sky.
They've been known for subsidising install costs if you signup with them.

I got pings of about 100 when playing MW2 tethering on my iphone through the pc. It was surprisingly playable apart from a couple of slow downs.

But as above it all depends on your area and signal really.

You can get things like the Huawei D100 3G broadband router that will take a USB 3G Dongle (preumably a huawei one) and this gives wired/wireless access for any device..

I've seen 3G Routers for around £40 when I last looked..

They do need to have a compatible 3G USB dongle (which is a modem) to work..

gaming wise, yeah, I've seen pings around 100-200ms when I tried it, but it's not a great experience IMO for FPS and other fast action games, you can play them, but the lag was noticeably poor for me.

are you in a cable area ?

virginmedia broadband will be the best bet if you dont want to use a phoneline. they offer it without anything else attatched on so you dont need to pay any line rental etc. also have the best pings by far

we used to get 2mb for tenner a month (no other costs whatsoever) but i ust had a quick look on the site and all they offer is 10mb for 15/20 now
