Never heard of them.

Called this morning and said they wanted to review my bill and current contract as it was coming up for renewal ( this month ).

They said they were acting on behalf of TMobile and were authorised to contact me and discuss a new contract/deal?.

I was a bit suspicious and said I would rather contact TMobile myself if I wanted to discuss upgrades and renewals.

Woman was quite cheeky and said :-

"So you would rather deal direct with TMobile would you?. Even if that costs you between £50 and £100 to upgrade to a new handset?. Thats not very clever now is it?"

At which point I hung up.

Whats that all about?. Who are Mobile Heaven and are they anything to do with TMobile?.

You should have told her she obviously isn't very clever if she is working in a call centre*

*Although I do not actually believe this, as I used to work in one, my GF currently does and she is incredibly clever, it is just a stop gap. However, having worked in one I know how annoying it is when people insult your intelligence for being there.

t-mob gave up on 3rd party companies like that a long time ago. ignore them.

Ta folks.

Thought as much, I'm sure I read something here on the forums a wee while ago about this "fishing" for customers.

Your replies are appreciated, I was right to be suspicious. :)

most of the time they dont get you upgraded, they actually start a new contract for you, hence why it seems cheaper.

How do 3rd parties know when you are going to renew etc? How do they get hold of your mobile, name etc?

This is a actual question btw. Just want to know how other companies are allowed these details.

afaik they just will start typing in random numbers say 07987654333, then ask renew date, then if it say in a month, then try to get the person to upgrade, then after that called same number but increase by one, so 07987654334, 07987654335 etc. i may be wrnog but this is what i heard a while ago.

I think you are wrong :) The mobile companies sell the info off to companies so they can make a few quid :)

I have a contract and just before the renewal date i get 3/4 calls like yourself i thought i was speaking to renew my contract with the people i deal with Crafty buggers :D

at work we've been warned about companies phoning about upgrades and claiming that they are from the network or even ourselves.
If in doubt, ask them for your account number.
If they claim to be from your network, the account number will be on your bill.
If they claim to be from the shop you bought the phone from, it should be your receipt

DPA rules would surely mean that they wouldnt give you your account number until you confirm details with them, which is more dodgy tbh.

if you are unsure, ask for a number to call them back on then call your network and question the number that was given

True, but if you have xyz mobile calling you up and saying they are O2 or T-Mobile or whoever, are they really going to be bothered about DPA?
