Mobile Internet - via Laptop

I need a solution where I can get the internet on my laptop while im not near any access point (wired or wireless).

I have seen the vodafone gprs card, although I was wondering if there were any other methods?

Could it be used via a pay and go mobile phone with free gprs?

Any help would be great.
