A friend was asking about mobile internet, ie the ability to check emails / perform online banking on the move.

My suggestion was wireless connections, like the ones you can use in mc dodnalds and other hot spots? how does this work? do you pay them and then they let you hook up on there signal?

Or sometimes isps give you a 56k connection you can use on the move, as part of a broadband deal. Am i on the right lines?

I said I wouldnt reccomend online banking on a public wireless hotspot though.

online banking uses SSL, you should be more concerned about checking email on a plaintext connection, the username and password will be clearly visible to anyone who might happen to be listening.
