Mobile Phone And Contracts Help/Advice Please!

Hi all,

Looking to get a new phone for the first time in some years! I'm going to go on contract with cashback and have a couple of questions:

• Is the whole XX months free / half price etc for real ?! You get the handset for free and pay probably less than the mobile costs alone, not to mention free texts and minutes. From the likes of cpwclearance, e2save etc.. is it legit and if so how does it work?
  
  
• I'm currently on o2 PAYG, if I get an o2 contract phone, once the contract period is up and I cancel it, can I take the o2 contact sim out and put an o2 PAYG sim in the phone or would that require unlocking?

If it helps I'm going to go for one of the Samsung phones, unsure which one yet, still looking. Probably have some more questions for you guys when I get home tonight!
