Mobile phone network coverage

I'm not too clued up on how they all work in the UK

Do they now all share the same masts etc? Or could T Mobile and Orange coverage vary in a specific area?

I live in a place that is likely to be in a 1% not covered area

4 or 5 years back, only Orange would work in my house, just wondering if things are likely to have changed in that time.

They don't all share the same masts. Some do, for instance - Tesco Mobile is 'carried' by O2 (which incidentally has the best UK coverage) but most of the 'main' networks have their own.

They mostly have their own infrastructure. The exceptions are Three, who use Orange's 2G network and share their 3G network with T Mobile, and MVNOs like Tesco Mobile and Virgin Mobile who are completely reliant on other networks.
