Mobile Use In Las Vegas?

Hi folks,

Can anyone tell me if the HTC Hero and Nokia 5800 work in Las Vegas? I am not sure which cellular system they use. The Hero is quad band and the 5800 is tri-band, is that right?

I understand that IF they are to work, roaming is needed (not a problem, both phones are activated for roaming).

I know it will be expensive, but I will need to make the odd call if possible.

The other option I thought about was using Skype. I am sure there wouldbe lag, but it's better than nothing. So, using a free hotspot or having to purchase data time at our hotel might be an option?

Can you get PAYG sims out there and use those easily?

All help greatly appreciated!

Both will work fine. You'll roam onto either AT&T or T-Mobile US.

Whether you'll get 3G reception is another question. I think you should with either phone on AT&T though.

I don't think you'll get 3G reception with either phone but 2G will work fine. It's a bit of a crapshoot as to whether your hotel's internet will allow Skype. I found that about 75% of places were fine.

FYI, both phones are quad-band, but that term refers to 2G.

Awsome, that's just what I needed to know. I could have researched this myself, but as usual, the folks of OCUK gave me the answers I needed, promptly and to the point. :)

Many decent hotels in the US have reasonable internet connectivity... I've stayed in amerisuites in various places and they have ethernet to every room and often wireless too. They don't usually block skype. Internet is usually included in the room price but not always.
