I've recently picked up a set of 2x1gb OCZ and a set of 2x2gb OCZ, giving me a healthy 6gb for when i install W7.

BUT when i start the pc the POST screen shows it as 5gb, if i pull the 2x1gb set, it shows as 3gb.

Once i get into windows, both the system properties and cpu-z show the system as having 6gb, but the "cpu usage" widget shows a total of 5118mb of ram.

Mobo is p5b-deluxe, os is vista home premium.

Basically, what have i broke now?

Cheers.

CPU-Z says i'm running version 1233 from 22/5/2008, yay, might have found the problem.

And now the Asus download page is broken, the images (for the anti-leech) aren't loading, so i can't enter the numbers and get the files, or the flash prog :(

Oh joy, got the flash prog, got the bios file, flash prog failed to verify the bios after flashing, now the program won't restart as it can't detect an asus bios.

Hmm, do i risk turning the machine off .......

ok, turning the machine off was a bad idea, all i get now is a new screen where it's searching for a new bios file from a floppy (which i don't have), a cd-rom (which i don't have) or a usb device (which i keep meaning to buy!)

So i'm using my "at deaths door" toshiba lappy (where the piece of the mobo that powers the wireless has died, the touchpad is on acid, the 512mb of ram is reading as 384mb and some of the keys don't always respond), it's a slight change of pace!

Now to go bios file hunting!

So, after nearly bricking my mobo, it turns out there is some "ram disable" function in the bios which frees up another gig, yay!

Maybe, but it's not me proof! (i had to take the optical drive out of the kids machine to get this sorted, really should look at getting another one for myself!)

Optical. Not used one since i installed vista. Not got a need for one any more. Games are all downloads these days and any software i need is downable too. (no not those downloads!)
