Hey guys..

Weird problem here, recentley i've been having problems with my internet. I'm using a Surfboard SB5100E with a Linksys WRT54GSV4 router (Firmware Tomato 2.21).

Basically whenever the modems active e.g on Xbox Live, downloading, gaming, the connection will drop randomly and the modem reboots itself

I've tried checking router, resetting to default, reinstalling firmware etc with no luck :(

Here's the signal page from modem:

Anybody got any ideas? :(

I'd suggest trying another modem.

You do realise he's on CABLE don't you ? That's a paired modem and account, you can't just swap a modem as such.*

Simple solution is connect the 360 to the modem directly using a wired connection, if you still get the random reboots etc then get a trouble call booked, it's either a modem swap or a cable issue, the stats you post aren't going to help sadly as they vary wildly from one 'old' franchise are to another. Also the 5100 Motorola's are probably the best hardware VM ever shipped, they will do DOCSIS 5 and are generally regarded as being the most stable offered. The SA Webstar's are newer but they aren't any better.

*Technically you could if it's on the same UBR and on an active a/c but it's not going to help other than to identify that you either have a faulty modem (that will need a tech to call out and swap over) or that you have a cabling issue (that you need a tech to call out and swap over).

Call tech support, get it logged and they'll investigate. If you call them now you have a reasonably good chance of not speaking to india ;)

So are some of the people who call them :D

For what it's worth the UK based VM tech support wasn't *that* bad, they weren't overly scripted and if it wasn't something they could resolve you were escalated to 2nd line pretty quickly. The Indian call centre on the other hand was horrific. If they didn't know how to resolve the issue you were told it was an outage in the area, when you pointed out it couldn't be as the service was working next door they'd tell you it was on a different UBR despite knowing you were a staff member dealing with a staff account!
