Have bought a cheap mk2 mondeo to last me a month or two after my escort clutch went. Its a W-Reg 2litre ghia in blue, the exterior is a bit battle scarred (scratches, small cracks on back bumber, no rust though!) but it was only £850.

The only problem i have is that on the fuel cap cover the clip has broken so its currently stuck closed with blue tack, it seems like i can remove this from inside the boot but can't work out how, i was wondering if you knew after braking up your mondeo recently?

edit, to be clear the bit thats borken is the plastic that pulls back with the handle by the drivers feet.

Different mechanism to my 1997 car.

So unfortunately, I am not too sure who you can resolve the problem.

It looks as if it unscrews, comes away in two parts.

It also looks as if the mechanism is jammed open, are you sure this isn't the case?

mechanism moves fine, just the end has snapped, thanks for your help :)

Try twisint the bit above the metal bodywork and the bit below.

It will probably twist apart.

Alternatively, get down to Ford and buy a new one and then you will probably figure out how it comes apart by fiddling with the new bit :)

Good idea, i think your right about it twists apart i just can't work out how :(

incase anyone else has the same problem, i pushed the pin out through petrol cap. Went up local scrappy and got a new pin form a 97 mondeo (the interior pull is slighlty different but the pin is same) and just pushed it in and reconnected the metal cord.

Scrappy didn't charge me a penny for the pin :D

So far i spent £10 on the car, and i have fixed the radio, keyfob and petrol flap
