mondeo v6 insurance questions

the insurance and common problems i asked about

Most of the problems described don't cost anything to fix. They're not 'running costs'. HSF will write off the engine (probably), but it doesn't cost the earth to 'keep on top of it'. Mondeo's running costs are very low, mainly due to the very large surplus of spare parts that are about.

The HGF that people have mentioned is mainly due to the plastic water pump impelor breaking up and loosing blades, this is solved with a metal replacement, other issues are easily sorted as has been posted above.

The only running costs involved really are insurance which tends to be the main one for younger drivers, fuel as I have said the V6 lumps are quite thirsty around town.

My recommendations would be get a 2.0 until you have a couple years NCB then look at getting the V6, I personally would not get any other V6 that the one in the ST200 as the performance of this car is excellent, above 4k rpm a whole new world arrives VERY QUICKLY :D

I looked into V6's at 19 and ended up with a 2.0 instead. Just less hassle to run, less worry and not exactly slow at that age.

Then I saved up for a 6 pot.

you can change the standard engine to be the same with a few DIY fittable parts ;) Throttle body upper and lower inlet manifolds are the main ones, they really change the character of the engine....then if you want to go all the way, it's a bit more gritty with the change of the cams and head....then you have identical engines :)

I can't see how you'll be able to insure it... I've been looking at prices and they are stupidly high even for small cars now if you are young...even with the dedicated young insurers.

I have a 99 ST24, 21 4ncb and paying £450 tpft

Very tempted to do what tom has done and upgrade to ST200 parts.

All in all tom have you felt a difference in power already?

MASSIVE difference in power.....before it'd trail off quite badly after 6k rpm....now it pulls all the way until the redline quite literally, much longer power band.

Cool - and I can't remember from your list of mods, have you chipped it yet?

not unless it was chipped before i bought it which is possible as it made 188.8bhp on it's old engine with JUSt a lower inlet manfiold and K&N different to stock......and before anyone says over reading, Peternem's stock mk3 made 171bhp and NeedMoreSpeed's exhaust/TB/both manifolds etc made 197bhp....

So i dont THINK it's chipped :p If i do chip it, it'll be after i've put the ST200 Cams and heads in, and sourced some ST220 valve springs......with thouse bits and bobs i can raise the redline to around 8k rpm and free up even more ponies!

Tom.

Sounds great! Could be tempted to put some cash aside to do this if it makes some difference.

According to a few people chipping the car doesnt really do much to the car at all. Where did you source all your parts from?

Thanks

The big chipping differences come from when you've modded the engine substantially (or so I've been told). Obvious really, the stock ECU being set up for the stock engine :) .

I have st200 heads and cams waiting to go in mine. the cams will be going in my standard heads and i'm then gonna get the st200 heads worked on( bigger valves porting etc) and then install them to :)

All the time and money spent of turning other V6 engines into ST200 spec is wasted IMHO, why not just get an ST200, the car is a lot more than just the engine.
