Hello, im off to ireland in a week, currently saving up for a 24-70 2.8 to add to my collection

(Nikon shooter with a d700)

However I cant afford to get it before my trip.

I currently have a 50mm 1.8 AF and a 70-200 VR2

so im missing a general shooting lens 20-35mm?
I was thinking of getting a 35mm f2 AF for £150 Ideally spending less than 300

any suggestions as a temporary filler?

thanks.

Was about to say something about crop factor, but didn't realise the D700 was FF.

I would go for something more walkabout, personally. Something like the Nikon equivalent of the 17-40mm. But it depends what you'll be taking photos of.
If you're taking some scenery it would be handy to be able to shoot wider than 35mm as you'll never know what you come across until it's there.

There is the 20-35mm f2.8 AF-D or the 35-70mm f/2.8 AF-D. They're both old lenses but can still perform very well if used correctly. I guess it depends on how wide you want to go or whether you'd rather a zoom or prime. There's also the Tamron 28-75mm. None of those should break the bank.
