Well, I thought I had seen it all today,
Went to Manchester today to pick up my dad from the airport, on the return I got stuck behind a lorry on the A628 (annoying) I was 2 cars behind this lorry and I noticed an X-Trail making progress by overtaking everyone he could to get to the front of the queue.

We get to some pretty twisty roads where they were all solid lines diving the roads, total blind bends etc.
This numpty thought he was invincible and gods gift to driving so basically starts driving on the other side of the road  overtakes a couple of cars, gets just ahead of me and starts signalling to come in just in front of me where there isn't enough space, almost ramming me off the road!!!!

This guy was a proper menace and totally deserves to have his licence taken off him (if he has one).

Why do these people never end up in a ditch :(

They're all over the place. I fear for the innocent people they endanger. The entrance to my street is on an NSL road and one night I was slowing to turn right into my street and this twonk in a Mini initiates a 3 car overtake (2 cars waiting for me to turn).

It's lucky I do my lifesaver glance as I would never have seen him, and I wouldn't have been able to swerve at him and force him to plough into a field and have the police and farmer to deal with.

here's a picture for him

Ceiling fox is watching you drive like a ****

One evening driving home from work, I saw some guy in a Mercedes convertable doing some pretty dodgy overtaking. He was between two cars going through a village, then the road goes to NSL, and takes a sharp blind turn to the right, as soon as the road straightened, he overtook, accelerating fast towards oncoming traffic. Only just made it back on to the right side of the road with about 5-10 metres to spare from the oncoming car, and only a few metres in front of the car he was overtaking. The road ends about 500 metres down the road anyway, where there is always a queue of cars waiting to get out. I would be *very* supprised if he hasn't written off his car yet if thats his usual driving.

Also as my drive to work was on a dual carriageway where the limit was 60, there was always a cyclist every morning, a lot people overtook without much room, leaving about a foot :o seemed like I was pretty much the only person to change lanes and give the guy some room.

I've been in your situation a couple of times, and if you spot the guy coming past you, spot the car approaching and anticipate him needing to pull in, you can fall back and let him in. No hassle, possible dangerous situation avoided, everybody gets home safely.

I've also been in the opposite situation myself a couple of times - I was in a particular hurry one morning overtaking a line (4 or 5 cars) of slow moving (30-40mph in an NSL) traffic, when a car pulled out of an unseen junction into my path. Yes, it was my fault for overtaking and not noticing there was a junction for possible cars to appear from, but even in a potential crash situation I was stunned at the "How dare this guy overtake me, I'm not letting him into my space" attitude - to the extent of the people I was overtaking actively speeding up or slowing down to prevent me pulling back in and avoiding an accident.

Not having a dig, but usually if someone's acting like a plank on the road, I give them as much space to themselves as I can - because they will crash sooner or later, and I don't want to get caught up in their accident. Besides, you never know the situation in the other car, the guy might just be an idiot, but equally he might have been rushing to see a dying parent in hospital to say a final goodbye...there's no way of knowing.

i saw 2 pieces of driving that stick to mind. An impreza and a 535d racing. The impreza was obviously winning so was overtaking in the outside line on the dual carriageway. BM behind, pulls from the outside lane, into the hard shoulder, and undertakes both of them, then swerves back cutting in front of the driver on the inside lane in an attempt to keep up with the scooby madness.

other piece of madness i saw was a driver at traffic lights. Two lanes, one for straight on, and a 2nd lane on the right as a right filter lane. As the lights changed the driver in the right hand lane pulled off quickly (not that quick was only a banged up escort) and then pulled left across the front of the car in the straight on lane. but then proceeded to turn left. To attempt to turn left, in the right hand only lane, he must clearly have either been drinking or on drugs to think he could make it without crashing.

OK fine this guy is driving like an idiot, in your interpretation there was not enough space to overtake, and an x-trial is not the fastest of vehicles. What annoys me is this one phrase, which makes several apperances on this topic, which is "where there isn't enough space, almost ramming me off the road".

Why wasn't there enough space between you and the vehicle infront, I get fed up with people flashing lights at me because I have overtaken them and had to pull into a small space between two cars, if you are not going to overtake then pull back and leave lots of room for those who wish too.

I usually don't expect cars to overtake on solid lines, it kinda took me by surprise.

The worst driving I have seen is on the A9 in Scotland, the number of people who regulary overtake on that road at 90 odd mph, straight over blind summits is just amazing.

They have no idea what is coming on the other side of the crest of the hill, but just take their lives and others in their hands.

Saying that saw some shocking driving from a little old lady/fellow last week on the A33. Their driving along at the elderley national speed limit (40mph on a 60mph load). Then all of a sudden pull accross onto the wrong side of the road for about 30 seconds, then serve back very shocked when they meet another car coming straight towards them. I presume that they perhaps thought it was a dual carriageway and that they wanted to turn right. Couple continue tootling along at 40mph, but now visibly arguing with each other - probably about who was supposed to be wearing the binoculars. Anyway, I follow along behind them for a few miles more, and they don't turn right, they just carry onto Winchester, which makes the seemingly random driving the wrong way up the road in the middle of the night even more concerning.

yep, this makes me annoyed too,
sometimes I end up being commited to an overtake far longer than I wanted to.

'tis usually some twonk in a fast car at the head of the queue - sell it and buy a metro if you are going to daydream...

(but as OP noted, this didn't apply to him)

Yet again I didn't make my point accurately.

Why drive at any time so close to the car infront that an overtaking car has to "squeeze" into the gap. Stay further back, its safer, its less stressful, you have to do less corrections, and you will always be ready for numpties overtaking in less than ideal situations.

I've always held back a bit as it suited the car I had.

accelerate hard to (lorry),
pull out a bit, look
OK to go, yes
If my timing is sweet the turbo is kicking in at that precise point and the overtake is done in seconds.
If the road is not clear I'm still in low power and can brake.

'tis a shame the rest of my driving is so bad.

.

Was coming off the M6 onto the A14 and queueing (at around 5mph, so there wasn't much of a gap between me and the ambulance in front - probably about ten metres) and a massive articulated lorry decides to force its way of the main carriage way into that gap without waiting for me to brake or move out of the way.

Idiots are everywhere on the road: driving buses, lorries, private hire cars and my VW Polo. Nothing any of us can do aside from apply more caution and be defensive in our driving.

in Cambridge driving back from town ( my friend driving) we saw a red corsa I'm guessing the driver was REALLY old. literally, it nearly crashed 3 times in a space of 50 yards and the driver wasn't wear of any of them.

first it pulled out in front of a MR2 which was doing around 40. it just braked in time for the corsa to squeeze in.
secondly it went on a roundabout (m11 junction 11) without checking on coming traffic and nearly crashed again. the other driver 'again' had to manoeuvre out for him

i forgot what happened last.. but it was dangerous.

On an awful b-road (Ellesmere to Wem,for those that may know it) and 5-6 bikes came up behind me,theres a 90' right,100yds to 90' left (1st is blind ,2nd not much better) followed by blind hump back canal bridge, one nutter decides to overtake on the hump. How he got in in front of me before the oncoming car i'll never know.I dont think his mates were overly impressed either from the nods and headshaking they gave when i let them passed just after.
