I've known my Mother In Law for 31 years. I was courting for 5.5 years and I've been married for 25.5 years. My MIL has been exceptional in all that time and we have never had one cross or misword. The same can be said about my Father In Law. She's always been there for me from the age of 16 until now and she always sticks up for me. I can't think of one bad thing about her, so all the MIL jokes don't mean a lot to me except form my wifes side because my mum is a bit of a handful.

Hows your MIL or if you're not married, how is your Dads MIL?

I've always got on well with mine - never had a proble. She's lovely!

My in-laws are very cool on the whole. We all have pretty similar personalities and get on great. To give you some idea, we actually lived with them for 6 months while we looked for our own place - and, apart from a couple of incidents, barely a bad word was spoken! They also help us out a lot financially and take us on lots of trips. If I had to be picky, the MIL is a bit of a "moral crusader" and the FIL is quite neurotic.....but hey, nobody is perfect :p

1. It's great having someone older than me, especially as they've also been married a little longer than me.

2. It's also really good to find someone else who types form instead of from as I always do.

My Father in law passed away just over 8 years ago and we were very close. I miss him every day. My Mother in law is now suffering from Alzheimers and no longer recognises us. This was someone who could work out compound interest in her head when she worked for a building society many years ago. My mother and father think the sun shines out of my other half's rear end so I don't think that there are any complaints there either.

Well I obviously dont have a mother in law, but I got on really great with my Ex's family, I still do! Although My mum was scary, I think she'd be an awful mother in law! Unless my husband was a lawyer earning millions and a model or something!

My grandma is a good mother in law I think, although my mum and my dads mum didnt get on too well, although I always thought they did...untill she died and now my mum makes really horrible comments about her!

There is actually another point to this thread. This woman has looked after me like a mother for 31 years and today she has been diagnosed with cancer and I feel useless. She's been blind and crippled for at least 15 years and she's never moaned once. She's now got to put up with this and we know she won't accept any treatment. Apparently she has been 'marked' for 5 years and she's been dressing the wounds herself and my FIL is distraught because he didn't know a thing about it (he's 82).

Really sorry to hear that :(

If she doesnt want any treatment though, you have to let her make that choice. Hard as it is on you, it has to be her decision. Sure you know that already.

I'm thinking of you and your family :(

Mines like Hyacinth Bucket but not quite as bad. When she visits we can't watch TV if there's any suggestion of sex, violence or bad language. When the adverts for the new King Kong movie came on TV she made the comment 'I bet there's monkey sex is this film' accompanied by a big wet sniff. When we are driving her somewhere and she sees graffiti she will say something along the lines of 'scum they should be locked up and the key thrown away' and that goes for 10 year old daffodil pickers too...

But apart from that she's a nice old gal

:D

Mine's grand. We had a bit of a mare planning some stuff for the wedding, but since that's all done she's been great.

My dad must have had it easy - my mum is Finnish so he can't even speak the same language as his mother in law!

In Laws are fantastic ! :D

I watch Rugby with Desmo's Dad and we wind eachother up , Desmo's Mum is like a second Mum to me and looks after me

Our Parents get on like a house on fire - Whenever my Parents come up to visit they stay at Desmo's parents... It normally ends up with My Mum and his Mum drinking wine in the kitchen gassing and My Dad and his Dad lounging on the sofa with a beer and watching sport on tv :p

Couldn't wish for anyone better :)

My mother in law is a nightmare. Has never approved of me, and my wife can't stand her. Only see her because my wife is close to her father.
MIL never blessed our marriage. So many problems I can't list them all. :(
