Hello OcUk!,

A close mate of mine has unfortunatly been the victim of a dead motherboard and since he currently using a iphone to browse the internets and therefore needs my help to search for some components to restore his PC to usability!

What he needs to replace/buy

Motherboard.
A new Processor (he was using a Pentium 4 running at 3.00ghz)
2 gigs of RAM (The Motherboard He was using was quite old i think) and therfore the Old RAM he had is absolutely dire.
He also is wanting a new graphics card since the old one he was using is a 6xxx series nvidia which leaves a lot to be desired. He thought about getting the 9600 GT before however I'm not sure on that gfx card and there may be better alternatives that will fit into his budget.

He mainly uses his computer for gaming, browsing and general purpose e.g. MS Office blahblah, so is wanting a Gfx card to run most games well enough to be playable and fun, however not something too expensive.

Suggest me some components OcUk! :)

His budget is £275 maximum.

Thanks in advance!

looks good for the money this

That is quite tasty for his budget I think. I'll pop that to him tomorrow, he will be happy with this suggestion me thinks. It'll be a upgrade from his old rig.

Cheers for the suggestions. ;)

I think he's going to be blown away by the performance of that set.

I think his previous system was something like

3.00ghz Pentium 4 processor from 2003/4 or something.
An unknown motherboard. :D
An Nvidia GeForce 6100 Graphics card? I think
And DDR RAM.

a lot of this stufff was from a previous system before I think

i was reading the post and was thinking all sorts of things (mainly about i7s) ant then i read the £275 and thought "oh no" but MADEinSTOKE has really hit the nail on the head with that one, great performance for the price

Or, He could go Intel with a much better GPU, for less than £3 more.:D

I have to say that spec list has got me thinking. My rig looks like it is packing up.

Looks really good for the price and would go lovely with my already ordered ATI 5770 :D

This spec looks great! What size/make of PSU would be adequate for this set up?
