Hi folks,
Been a long time since i used the forums and long time since i have upgraded.
Im on a bot if a budget so would like to keep my Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3P motherboard.
I am using a dual core E6600 overclocked to 3Ghz at the moment.
What are my options for upgrading the cpu nowdays?
Do they even still have chips that are LGA775?

A quick search through the shop website would have answered this question for you!

There are still Core2 chips available, and they are still considered as decent chips, to find out whether this board will support the current 45nm Core 2 chips check out this link here.

I tried to check for you, but for some reason the page doesn't want to load for me.

Any of the Core2's will fit your board:

Quad: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/productlist.php?groupid=701&catid=6&subid=567

The GA-965P-DS3P doesn't support the extreme CPU's (if you could find one).

Depends on the revision of the board. Rev 2.0 does'nt support most of the 45nm cpu's. If it's rev 3.3 then it will be fine.

Any reason why the E6600 is only at 3Ghz? Most will hit 3.6Ghz and the DS3P is a fine board when it comes to clocking.

I'm running a noctua hsf and I've tried taking it past 3.2Ghz but it was a tad unstable, generally it would reset itself to 2.4ghz after a day or so.
Never could figure out why and too scared to try in case i totally fry it.

I do fancy a quad core.. will have to check my rev.

I've got the same mobo, rev2 with a Q6600 @ 2.8 in my VM box, been running like this for well over a year now and have never had a problem with it.

EDIT: Just realised that the Q6600 chips aren't being sold anymore and unless the mobo is a rev3.3 then the newer quads may cause problems.
