im in need of some your guidence im looking at upgradeing my pc starting with a q6600 quad core go steping i was looking at the striker extreme m\b BUT from what i have read and heard this board seems to be troublesome and fussy is this true and has anyone here had experience of this board or has one
idont want to pay all that money for it to be messing around all the time trying to get it working
The m\b im looking for if the striker extreme is this unstable ,troublesome, fussy needs to be an asus and what memory do you guys recomend is it worth buying some pc8500 or will pc6400 be enough i would like to get the cpu up to 3ghz maybe more who knows

thanks in advance og40

Hi and welcome :)

Do you have two nVidia graphics cards? Because if you don't then the Striker Extreme is really unnecessary.

What's your budget? You'd be better going for a Intel chipset based board for a Q6600.

hi cob

I could go up to £150 if it was really worth it for the m\b but if i can save and put towards the memory

thanks og40

thanks cob whats youre view on the x38 chipset and what memory do you recomend i was looking at crucial ballistics or tracer or some ocz sli and is it worth getting pc8500 or would pc6400 be enough as i would like to clock the cpu upto 3ghz if possible with an arctic cooler and is it worth getting rid of the onboard sound and getting an xfi gamer sound card lol so many questions i want to ask  :D

thanks for youre help og40

Nope not worth getting PC8500 with a Q6600. The cheap PC6400 Geil and OCZ are more than enough.

X38 is looking good, but only really for DDR3 memory.

As for sound, it's not really something I'm up with.

thanks boney recomendation but i would like to stay with asus at the moment do you guys recomend 4gb or stick with 2gb i play games , listen to music , watch films will be upgradeing to vista soon and kepping xp dual booting

thanks og40

thanks cob looks like it narrows the choice down to the Asus P5K-E WiFi or what about Asus Commando Quad Core motherboard LGA775 i965 is this any good

thanks og40

thanks boney i will stick with 32bit vista will this make a difference  does the xfi sound card make a difference in frame rate i games to the on board sound

thanks og40

thanks cob that clears that up my friend has that m\b and recomends it just thought id ask :D
whats on the horizon in m\b land to look out for mabe ill wait

thanks og40

Well X38 is only really starting off, so we expect to see a lot more boards with it. And the new Nvidia chipset is due any time (but it's really just an old chipset with PCI-E 2.0 bolted on).
