I am looking for a new motherboard, essentials are support for good processors still able to function with Windows 7 64 bit, and support for at least one PCIe M.2 drive. Niceties would be a VGA output socket, a header for a serial port and ALC1150 or better audio chipset, something definitely able to run "Stereo Mix", sometimes called "What U Hear". As an aside I don't believe CPU's beyond a certain series support Windows 7, is that because of driver issues, or more entrenched issues, and is it the same with late motherboards, too? Driver issues? Thanks.

Intel are releasing new chipsets with Windows 7 support and MS has widened support for Skylake in 7 - however you may still need to sidestream Windows 7 drivers in many cases and might find some newer board/CPU combos problematic.
