OK I want to spend at least 3 months next year in N America touring on a motorcycle,

i need to know a few things ,

what visa if any do i need, what license do i need and should i do it solo or part of a tour, ideally id like to do on my own

does anyone know or has done it? my route would be probably new York to Alaska.

oh i have a full uk driving license since 1986 but i havent done my uk bike licence

any advice

I have no idea, but i presume doing your UK bike licence would be a good start!

You might not be able to rent a bike out there unless you've had like 3 years experience or something?

I dont know, just guessing, im sure someone knowledgeable will be along soon :)

You can visit the US for 3 months without a visa as the UK is on the visa exempt list. However if you wanted to stay longer than that you'd need some form of travel visa (which they may or may not approve).

I'm not totally sure about US laws regarding motorbikes, but I would imagine you'll need a license to ride one (as you do over here). Besides traveling 3,000 miles without a license would be extremely foolish/dangerous.

Also bear in mind that you'll need to pass through Canada before getting to Alaska...

You'll need your bike license. So the best thing is to get a direct access course done which will allow you to ride whatever *cc you want when you do pass. Whereas here in Northern Ireland, we still have the two year limit with no direct access course as far as I'm aware.
