Thought that there must be many of us on here who attend motorsport events all over the country, so the intention of this thread is to share experiences and photos of events all over the country (and the world!).

It also ocurred to me that we have plenty of keen photographers, so share your best shots - say a limit of 4 photos per event.

Similar no photo-quoting/image width rules as per daily encounters on the main motors sub forum. Please link to additional photos/albums if you wish as I find I enjoy flicking through some of the albums people have posted before on here.

Perhaps this would be better in the off-topic thread, but it'd be nice to have a bit of a seperate discussion going, particularly as that would probably be better named the F1 off topic thread.

I'll start below with the Blancpain Sprint Series at Brands Hatch in May:

Blancpain Sprint Series - Brands Hatch - 10/05/15

The format of the series is as follows:
  • GT3 class cars, 2 drivers per car (except with special dispensation such as Alex Zanardi driving solo)
  • Qualifying is split into three sessions, one for each of the drivers and the third to seed the top half of the grid, based on aggregate times acheived so far
  • On the main race day, the morning is host to the "Qualifying" race. This is an hour long, with a mandatory pitstop to change drivers and tyres between 25 and 35 minutes into the race. Finishing positions set the order for the main race and lower points are awarded.
  • The "Main" race runs to the same format, but must not be started by the same driver as the qualifying race. The full points haul is on offer here

The support classes were well picked at Brands, with the Mini Challenge, BRSCC MX5s (massive entry of over 60 cars IIRC) and GT Cup. They also had the wherewithall to not make the main event the last race of the day which eased numbers when leaving (although it wasn't massively well attended in any case).

The full GP loop was run, which is always welcome as you can get much closer to the track, and there's very little catch fencing, though you won't be seeing many overtakes.

The only big screen was positioned on the South Bank facing Paddock Hill. It was pretty difficult to see from anywhere else, but it was still good to have it there as tracking what's going on can be pretty difficult, particularly as the commentary is often drowned out by the cars.

Not that this is a bad thing - if you're into racing sounds then GTs are fantastic for the variety of powerplants - the V10 howl of the Audis & Lamborghinis, the V6 of the GTR or the V8s of the Bentleys, BMWs, McLarens or Ferraris (which are always loudest - no matter what class of racing).

All in all a brilliant day, and my first time out with a DSLR. Highlights below, and the album can be found on Picasa.

Enlarge - MX5s pile into Clearways - I believe each MX5 race had 40 starters so there was plenty going on!
