How to ruin a classic track - get F1 there.

100% agree. The original track will never be recovered, at least the revised version maintained some of the original remaining legendary corners (Tarzan). Now the few left have been re-profiled.

Looks like it will be a procession, although it could throw up a few incidents.

I'm hoping the banked last turn means some good speeds and drafting/DRS down to turn one. The rest of the track looks single file.

World Motorsport Council's F1 related decisions from today.

FIA Formula One World Championship

Settlement Agreement between the FIA and Scuderia Ferrari

The Council expressed unanimous support for the FIA President and the FIA Technical Department in regard to the overall management of the case, and strongly opposed any comments that undermine the reputation and image of the FIA and the Formula One World Championship.

2020 Technical and Sporting Regulations

For the 2020 Technical Regulations, the Council approved an increase in minimum mass from 745kg to 746kg due to the addition of new elements to monitor the Power Units.

A change to the 2020 Sporting Regulations was approved to allow for unrestricted variations to driver helmet designs between races. Furthermore, it was clarified that the end of season test at Abu Dhabi will be using 18” 2021 Pirelli tyres.

2021 Technical and Financial Regulations

A number of updates to the 2021 Technical Regulations were approved, including:

  • Changes to the front wing profiles to prevent downwash which would have resulted in a severe compromise to the overall objectives to allow cars to race more closely
  • Front wing endplates, top bodywork and rear wing endplates have been modified to give the teams more commercial space
  • Drastic improvements to the strength and energy absorption of the chassis in front, lateral and rear impacts.
  • A number of updates to considerably improve electrical (high voltage) safety on the cars
  • Tethers will be mandated for rear wing and rear impact structures

Kulite has been appointed as the official supplier for Power Unit pressure and temperature sensors in the 2021, 2022 and 2023 seasons.

Changes to the Financial Regulations for 2021 and beyond will allow monitoring activities to be performed by Cost Cap Administrators at any point in time, remotely or at F1 Teams’ premises. For full details, please click here.

So we'll see the 2020 cars on 2021 wheels and rubber in the end of season test. :D

Zandvoort has had more than half a dozen track changes, with or without F1 involvement, each time getting slower and slower (it was one of the quickest short tracks around). This is one of the more minor changes in that the layout itself hasn't changed.

The original track was much, much faster with its terrifying back half of the circuit which hasn't existed for decades.

That said, I don't like the ever-widening of F1 tracks. It's like sticking a plaster over a broken leg.

Surprise surprise Red Bull are crying about all of Mercedes' innovations.

RB challenge legality of Merc rear brake ducts.

Red Bull’s engineers suspected that the rear brake vents were not compliant with Article 11.5 of the Technical Regulations which state:

Air ducts around the rear brakes will be considered part of the braking system and shall not protrude beyond:

a) A plane parallel to the ground situated at a distance of 160mm above the horizontal centre line of the wheel.
b) A plane parallel to the ground situated at a distance of 160mm below the horizontal centre line of the wheel.
c) A vertical plane parallel to the inner face of the wheel rim and displaced from it by 120mm toward the car centre plane.
d) In the forward direction, a radius of 330mm from the centre of the wheel or in the rearward direction a radius of 180mm from the centre of the wheel, when viewed from the side.

The new Technical Directive produced as a result of this particular protest, the details of which have not been released, means the reigning World Champions have been left with no choice but to make some adjustments to the W11.

Plus their stated intention to protest Mecedes' DAS if they use it.

F1 2020 starting out great - one race all-but cancelled, another running behind closed doors, more races under threat, a big row from last year still bubbling over and now protests about legality of current cars. Marvellous.

Just watching Question Time, the first with no studio audience. Matt Hancock, secretary of state for health and social care, commented that as part of a national effort, Formula 1 engineers are building respirators.
