Moving into a flat , internet

My flat has cable so I've had 10mbit for a while, I'll be moving soon so don't know what options I'll have after. It's a bit scary really:p I haven't had a phone line for 4 years so I might have to get one of those:(

It was a consideration for us (myself and my girlfriend) as we both work from home (whilst connected to work) from time-to-time. Thus we looked for new-ish builds.

My parents and I are moving to an area which is over 9KM from the exchange - Big No No For me :(
Luckily we won't be moving in for the best part of a year (self build) and I doubt I will be staying at home that much longer than a few months.

yeah, got to have dsl speeds, or if it is in the pipline, thn depends when the work is going to be done, i saw a nice flat that i was going to buy, and although the speeds arent that great, 24Mb lines are being installed in that area over the next 6 months so it would have bought it as the line will be fast sooner rather than later

I live in a non-cable or llu adsl area, but get 8mb connection and see no need for anything faster I can wait. I have zero mobile signal in most of the house (others said it's a deciding factor) I bought a wireless repeater off the bay for £65, put aerial in my attic and ran a wire inside the wall to a small wireless router and get full signal every place.

Have a fantastic house and commodities now :D

But nowadays the answer is no, not really. My current house just has your bog standard ADSL max product and I get 5.5mbit down and 0.8mbit up. There is no Cable, no LLU and no FTTC. And I'm much happier living here than in the city with flashy internet and troublesome neighbours.

I live in a small village with more a higher sheep populous than human, backing onto fields and no road noise outside at all, in a detached with only 8 other houses on my street and I’ve got 50mb cable. You don’t have to live in a city to get cable 

Can you actually find out what broadband you can get before renting a place? I though that you needed a land line first then they could test what sort of and if you can get broadband.

You can check how far the exchange is, and what quality of line they have in the area. We went for the easier option of assuming a newer build building will have fresh(er) lines installed than an older building.

Definitely affect me, will be looking for a virgin media cabled house when I get my own/move out of student housing.

Loving the 20mb, don't want to go back to the 7mb or so from last year!
