Moving onto a V8

Given your car history of Skylines and your other car, it sounds like, and correct me if I'm wrong, you want something fun.

Jag and Lexus V8s are nice but fun? Not too sure about that. If you want a step up in terms of marquee and luxury inside - then those are good options.

VXR8 are very fun. Basic to service and the interior will still be a step up from the Nissans you've owned.

Yes, thats right. I forgot to mention the most important part! FUN!

I would prefer something quick, loud and obnoxious and looks pretty mean hence the Corvette or VXR8, still got to make my mind up on a Mustang although i do quite like them.

Servicing i can do myself so things like that aren't to much of an issue and I have plenty of mechanically minded friends with heavily modded cars to help me along the way as always

Audi B7 RS4 if you want something that grips like your R33.

I would prefer to go back to RWD i like a bit of skidding.

Is there anyone here who has/had a LHD car? What is it like driving them? Does it take long to get used to?

I've had a fair few LHD cars. For me there wasn't much in the way of 'getting used to it', just simply jumped in and drove it off.

It's really dependant on whether you feel comfortable with it or not - you'll either have no issue, or you won't be able to get used to it. You'll have to try and find out :)

A C5 Z06 is an excellent option. I would always pick one over a TVR for the primary reason that you can beat on a Corvette and it'll take it all day long, where as the TVR potentially won't. C5s are also relatively cheap to run, not overly costly to fix, comfortable in daily use and sensible on fuel when just cruising about.

The Z06 is quite a different car from a C5, the C5's more of a sporty GT whereas the Z06 is a flatout sports car. The Z06 has a 'different' engine (LS6 as opposed to LS1, basically a heavily tuned version), brake cooling ducts, larger wheels and tyres, uprated suspension, different gearing, the active handling package, a titanium exhaust system and reductions in weight in various areas. Few other minor changes too.

Ideally you want to get a 2002 model year (or later) car because they're more powerful.

You can probably get a good feel for one from these videos here:

Do we like the way they sound? WE DO :p

Far, far more entertaining and enjoyable than the VXR8. Much more presence as well, sound far better stock to boot. Lighter and more sporting/engaging to drive than a Mustang.

My old facts and figures copy:

Standing ¼ mile: 12.4 seconds

Faster than the Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale F1 around the Nürburgring :D

That one used to average about 26mpg - it was a daily driver - and it wasn't treated particularly gently. Not bad going! :)

No :p As an example:

...the Z06 can lap the Nürburgring in less than 8 minutes – beating the BMW M3 CSL, the Ferrari F430, Honda NSX-R, Porsche 911 Turbo and more. Without doubt it is an extremely competent, capable car.

Not that Nürburgring times are indictive of a car that's great to drive but they can serve as some kind of vague guide.

Hell, in the States Corvettes have dominated Autocross and Gymkhana events since the Seventies.

Regarding the build quality, certainly not as good as some of its similarly-performing rivals - but then those rivals usually cost tens of thousands more, hence the higher quality materials and finish. The Corvette has money spent where it was needed to get the performance and reliability. I've always found them very comfortable though and, barring the seats and some minor trim (although it does vary), very durable inside.

Obviously a lot of it is subjective but I've been in much more expensive cars with worse interiors, or interiors that aren't as comfortable or as refined :)

Still enjoying my VXR8 - big old beast, but makes an awesome noise, can fit loads in it loves to wag its tail. Well worth a test drive.

Plus it's fairly common to see corvettes on 200k miles+ in the states

Very true. One of mine only had its first major problem at 168,000 miles - autobox oil pump packed up. Wasn't horrendously expensive to fix though and the engine, suspension, steering and interior was all still spot on. Not bad for a 22 year old (which it was at that point). Still going strong today and makes the trip out to Le Mans each year, sees a fair bit of track action too.

I hope this thread ends up with the OP purchasing a CORVETTE, I feel sorry for Lashout that over the years of recommendations no one has purchased one :(
