Hey,

My old Samsung is a bit long in the tooth, and I'm looking for something new. Way out of touch with new players so wondering if you guys can give me some suggestions :)

Basically under £100, not fussed if it does video etc, but i would like 8/16GB minimum. (No iPods though)

Thanks

Best sound quality in the price range is probably Sansa Clip or Fuze (they have same DAC chip). The Fuze takes microSD cards so you can expand the memory further.

There's a Clip+ on the way, which will also take microSD cards.

How does a 2nd gen Zune 80 compare to these, sound quality wise? Second hand they come into budget. Maybe even a 16GB Ipod touch gen 1?

You would be wise to invest in a Sansa Fuze. I settled on one a couple of months ago after much research into similar MP3 players.

The Fuze puts out a great sound (the stock headphones aren't bad either), is easy to navigate and has the option of doubling or tripling its capacity using Micro SDHC cards.

For the price it walks all over everything else in the market.

Sony S series walkman no question. Pretty much the best 8/16GB device out there IMO. Epic sound quality even with the supplied earphones (Sony seem to be about the only company that provide good earphones with their players).:)

Personally, I loved my 80g Zune, the sound quality was great, the screen was very good, the interface was excellent and I also loved the software.

I'm not saying this because I'm selling one on the MM, if I hadn't decided to go for the Sony X1060, I'd have been more than happy to keep it. Just read around mate.

After much deliberation i bought an iRiver Clix 2 8GB a few months ago. It's brilliant. Lovely sound quality, lovely interface and the AMOLED screen really polishes it all off. I'd recommend it to anybody.

In the end I went for Kev's Zune, thanks for the advice though.

Pretty sure you'll like it. I picked up a Zune when I went back home to Canada for Christmas and I absolutely love it. Will definitely be picking up a Zune HD (or getting one sent over here as the case may be).

Only gripe would be the software used to transfer songs over. I have simple tastes in that I would prefer drag and drop.
