your better off keeping it original rather than sticking various lumps in it. i guess it comes down to what you doing with it . loads of cheapish options zetec focus options. vauxhaul lumps. duratec 2.0L is a nice option and can go on to decent power.

if you restore it to standard it'll be worth a lot of money, just like a MK3 Cortina, but not if you mess around with it like A*** does.........................HA HA

I already have a 2.0 Zetec Engine kicking around the workshop, undecided on fitting it.. Ive built a few Zetecs in MK2 Fiestas so not sure I want to do it again, had a 195hp N/A and a 350hp Turbo'd one so think Im done with that for now.

Some things I do with the car will obviously not please everyone, it is never going back standard as I have no interest in a standard MK2 unless its an RS1800 - Which I cannot afford lol.

It may be Turbo Charged, but it will not be doing using Ford running gear thats for sure...

As for the prices above.. I gave nearly 3 times as much for it!! :o Old School Ford market for you :o

There's one that turns up in one of the sprint series that I do timing for. Don't know the full details of what's been put in it but it's been badged as an "RS5000" and makes lovely V8 noises. Do that.

if you have the zetec engine and done before its obviously the cheapest option to get the power you want. i guess though because you done it before and want a new project you want something different.

Vauxhall C20XE are popular not too dear. can have big power. purists might cry a little :D

Not a Vauxhall guy, my mates got a C20XE sat over his lock up with the 1800 Manta Sump etc.. Just cant do it.. Main thing at the moment is body work.. Im off to NEC classic car show soon, so ill see if I find any ideas there.. It may well still end up with a Pinto.. but I can see a Zetec in there before that!

On the road....
Looks fabulous, what epic old things they are :Misty eyes:

Unless your name is Ari, I reckon 200 would be too much. You need a nice balance on something like that :)

True enough, 200 is near double what a standard Mk2 RS2000 put out - and whilst a riotous hoot to drive could certainly be a handful out of the box.

I recall a family friend had a 1600 Sport that ended up around 165bhp (with a 2.0 Pinto) before he rolled it into a ball!

I’ll follow this with great interest, hope he keeps it as relatively original/faithful as possible, done well it’ll be worth an awful lot to many people.

the problem is how much money you sink into them. for eg. he could spend 20k on this it will be worth probably 20k or less. the ones that fetch mega money are rare versions or absolute minters. there is plenty of 5-10 grand 1-3 / 1,6 rough ones about. so it just comes down to what you doing with it. works rally ones put out about 220-240bhp. 160-200 is plenty of fun. anything over that gets really expensive. a lot of rally schools and such are just stopping doing escorts cause its 15 grand for a proper shell then the bits. when you can just buy a scooby or evo and have less hassle less expense. epic cars one of my favs.

realistically new paint job do it up put 2.0 pinto in get it nice looking 10-12k if mint. its going to cost that realistically to get that. so on the cheap the zetec maybe the better option for fun and cheapness.
