Aftermarket HUs in BMWs look naff. But then so do the standard ones with tape decks

It's not custom its just a DIN sized aftermarket unit with a fascia adaptor.

Note the angle that picture is (deliberately) taken at as well doesn't show how terrible those facias really are.

Here's a better look at one:

See how high the top of the radio pokes out, mrk's type of one is moulded out like that which again is cleverly disguised in his pic.

Aftermarket HU in e46 = terrible.

Always will look terrible

Believe it or not, this is one thing stopping me considering an E46 - music in the car is very important to me and I dont think I could live without full iPod integration, AFAIK there's no good solution that allows full navigation of an iPod so it would need an aftermarket HU.

Would love to be corrected though

Oh there is, it's called an Intravee. Works far better on cars with satnav though.

To be honest Intravee is virtually unusable on an E46 without Nav surely? I tried it with the single line display the other day and it was beyond terrible

I will vouch for the intravee with the BMW satnav, works wonderfully.

Its £144.84 for the intravee box.

Very true, except I got mine off ebay with an alpine HU for £80, then sold the HU for £90 \o/

Damnit guys, I've just talked myself out of looking for an ST220 on the basis that it's not fast enough to justify the increased day to day running costs - now I'm going to have to find a way of unjustifying a 330d
