Hi Guys.

Not been on in a while as i bought a Samsung D8000 3D TV instead of upgrading my PC, however Fifa 12 is getting boring now and the missues is kicking me off it more and more to watch Emmerdale (my poor TV). So im now ready to upgrade my PC again with a few bits...

I cam across these:

MSI GeForce GTX 560Ti OC Twin FrozR II 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

vs

MSI GeForce GTX 570 OC Twin FrozR III Power Edition 1280MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

The 560Ti is cheaper. Faster MHz and more memory.

I am only looking to get something to run BF3, Rage, Skyrim etc untill the new range of GPU's come out next year.

Any advice on which of the two above to go for? I have settled on those an i like MSI.

Cheers.

Fair enough.

But why does the 560 have nearly double the memory etc?

Surley given the spec of that particular 560 it will be better, or am i missing something.

Sorry for being a bit stoopid lol.

The only difference i can see is the number fo processing cores.

Is that what makes the big difference.

GTX 570 - 480 Stream Shaders, 384 bit Vram, 20 (or 24?) ROPs.

GTX 560 ti - 384 Stream Shaders, 256 bit Vram, 16 ROPs.

If i do get the MSI GTX 560 is it not worth paying £40 more for double the memory for the 2GB version?

I would definitely pay the extra, others won't though.

You may get a high res pack for skyrim that will love the extra vram.
DAII, Crysis 2, Rage, BF3 could take advantage of the extra vram too.

I will say no its not.

Simple reason - by the time you actually need that much Vram, the entire GTX 500 range will be too slow.

Save that £40 towards your next GPU, 2 Gb Vram will only be worth buying when it is available on cards priced around £150 that offer much better performance than the current high end.

You say that but BF3 is already showing that it needs a lot of VRAM, GTAIV showed it and i guarantee that Skyrim will be pretty demanding for memory.

First 2 yes(although GTA4 badly coded yes, but still uses lots of vram just the same), Skyrim, doubt it, we'll get another dodgy console port.

Skyrim high res texture mod on the other hand...

for price for performance get a 1gb gtx 560ti, aim for the 150-180 mark

a 570 is faster no doubt but as you move away from a 560ti inevitably you will lose value for money

getting a 2gb card is of course better if you only pay very little for it, but even paying £200 for a 2gb 560ti is very little point as you just will see little if any difference in performance (except at high resolution at which point you will want a more powerful card anyways)

I've yet to see any proof whatsoever that an extra 1Gb memory on a 560Ti improves performance by more than one or two FPS at resolutions under 1200p. Also worth mentioning is that the 560Ti OCs very well and can reach the performance level of a stock 570 fairly easily.

Thanks guys.

By my understanding, yes the 2GB version will obviously help but its a little like a catch 22 whereby the time you get to the point where a game will use the extra vram then the whole card will be too slow to run that game, is this about right?

Anyway bit ponitless now, not got as much money as i thought so im just getting the Graphics card this month and the mobo etc, next month.

That said i have my eye on this;

Gigabyte GeForce GTX 570 SOC WINDFORCE 3X 1280MB

What do you think? Will that keep me going with the current games for a while?

Hope not, it'll end up like rage :(
Probably!

Change it round and buy the mobo this month, Nvidia are bringing out a new revised 560Ti featuring 448 CUDA cores, 56 TMUs, a 320-bit memory bus and likely 1280MB VRAM(possible unlocking to a 570!)

At the very least I imagine that will nock the prices around a bit.
