msi 5850 test fine , crash 's still

You see with mine once the blank screen occured (which was the instant the game/benchmark loaded) you could not simply alt-tab out of it as the machine needed a reboot... and then it would usually not POST for 3-4 times before starting again and repeat.

The fact that you can alt-tab out of it suggests it may be something else in your system causing it.. I take it you have run everything at stock to see if it still happens.

At first, i just uninstalled nvidia drivers, safe mode /driversweep ect, then installed AMD 10.12, then all my problems started,
so i then done a fresh install with just drivers and a few games/benchmark progs to test, and same things still happen, games freezes, all this was done while system was a stock settings ., no overclock on CPU or GPU

send back to OCUK, they run various benchmarks and say its OK, so i now have it back !

It could well be a faulty PCI-E slot maybe the second one? primary okay??
i use the top PCI-E slot with my gtx280 now without any problems, only time i started getting problems was after i installed the msi 5850

also if i use my second slot the card gets limited to x8 and not x16
Sorry was referring to staffyuk's problem on the original thread, regarding crossfire.

Nelly i tryed msi slot 1 asus in 2. asus 1 msi 2. msi single 1 &2. asus 1&2 what works fine 2hr gaming. HIS6950 slot 1&2 2x HIS cf works without any problem. only get the crashing with msi card no matter what config.

oh sorry , NP,, i should have started my own thread about this, instead of Hijack this one
no problem. i'm getting the same as you, the od time though i can ctrl-alt-del to shutdown whatever has crashed

I wonder if OcUK tested the card in Crossfire?? I'm guessing they didn't but worth asking, I'm guessing you asked the question.

I would ask people in this thread: ***The Official MSI 5850 Twin FrozeR Thread*** see if anyone is using one in crossfire with a different brand 5850, if their is with no problems then it's safe to assume it's an issue with your card.

If you actually paid by Visa, you have more protection in terms of what can be refunded within 12 months, might be worth asking Consumer direct for further advice in terms of what can be done as the 5850 is obviously not working as it should be.

I sent it back to ocUK and asked for a refund which they gave me after testing it. I now have an Asus Radeon 6850 running perfectly in my system.

Just hoping to get the return postage fee refunded as that would really satisfy me.

Just an update, sent ocUK a webnote about the return postage and they have replied to say a refund is being processed. So that is that sorted then! Only lost out on the initial postage and a great card of course (had I gone for a replacement and received a good one).

nelly it don't work on its own, let alone having to contend with cf issues .

yeah looks like going have to go down the hassle of comsumer direct. if so that me done with oc. 15yrs + using them not any more. first 5 yrs they were great, no1 could match them for there after sales support. 10 yrs things started to change support was there but had to wait a little longer. now they just fob pll off. supose its what u get when a company gets big.
