MSI 7950 twin frozr help!

I've sent an RMA request to OCUK and asked to swap the card for the Gigabyte Windforce model.

MSI seem to have really dropped the ball big time here.

Shame, now I lose time, postage money and additional cost.

:(

Right ... 1 fixed! I had scratched the cooler shroud, sold the game codes and removed the cooler on that one so what the hell, go for it :)

Used a sharp pointy knife and off it pinged ... card gets to 70c when clocked to 1100/1500 @ 59% fan which is a lot less noise than 100%

Shame the diode removal has been proven to work after I sent my card back. I would have kept my MSI card over the Gigabyte one. Oh well, glad you guys have found a fix that works! Kudos for ripping them off and seeing what happened, I wasn't quite that brave when I read about it!

I'm not brave enough to do it, not worth the risk for an unskilled person such as myself. Waiting for OCUK to clarify swap for WF 3X (I've used my AMD reloaded code so that's an issue too).

Here's the wee blighter! :) My problem was seeing it (getting old!) but with a steady hand easy to ping off, just be very careful as a slip and something else will come off with it! I did not fancy putting the soldering iron to it myself tbh.

so you just hacked it off and now its fine?

After messing with the MSI AB fan profile my 'fixed' TF III runs 70s temperature with 44% fan @ 1150/1575 which is acceptable IMHO so when MSI fix these cards proper they are good. Just watch out in crossfire with all that heat affecting everything else - my i7 920 was running in the 90s in Crysis 3 but no crash so no issue really ...

It seems that pinging that diode off does not invalidate the warranty as it is intended as an overheat safety measure but kicked in far too early so either way RMA is still valid ...

The way they have addressed this I think MSI have done the right thing and good on em for that, but their QC, well that is something else!

MSI AB Graph running Valley at the benchmark thread settings ...

glad you managed to get yours oc'd. When mine is ocd and i play now it just turns off. I suppose i could increase the voltage but i didnt need to before.
i just use a small overclock now

same, had this very issue with my 7870 and sent it back for a 660ti. not really sure how something like this could have escaped MSI's QC for so long

Can anyone confirm if the fan returns to a normal state after gaming and the card cools back down with the diode intact, or does it stay@100% until system reboot?

Believe it or not, could be handy with the faulty diode left intact as it would be running under an AC Extreme, it would be a better fan profile for the Extreme.

Thinking about getting one to replace my DD in CrossFire, it's a pita having to use two different OC tools.:(

Thanks nuzik.:)

One last question if anyone can take the time to check for me, does it overclock and apply voltage to both the core/memory using His iTurbo(http://www.hisdigital.com/iturbo/download/iTurbo_v1.3.1.exe) as the Ice-Q I have, doesn't apply voltage at all using AB.

Don't want to get another just to be left with using two OC apps again and defeat the purpose of the swap.

Thanks.
