Mine is a Xfx not had it hit 100% but at 70% its not so bad. But I use headphones when gaming so not bothered If I do use a higher Fan speed to keep temps down.
Am aiming below 75C for any game think its possible?

70% is the limit i can tolerate with the headphones off. I think 60% is probably the max tolerable noise if you have your pc near you. (on your desk rather than underneath or out of the way)

I've not had a reference cooler so I can't comment on it, but my XFX 6850 on 40% was annoying as nuts

I use the custom fan profile afterburner has as default the auto one is what CCC uses on AMD cards which is 33%, i don't find that good enough in the summer.

It was a card I won from AMD though, so was a free upgrade from my 5770.

Can see why it gets high temps. Bet mine at 100% will sound like a fighter jet then LOL

Prior to using this custom profile the top card was hitting 95C when maxxed out and the lower card was hitting 85-88C so the lower cards about 12C cooler and the upper card 10C cooler.
