Are the Hawk versions supposed to be better than the Frozr versions?

From what I can gather, the Twin Frozr cards simply have the custom coolers on the reference PCB, perhaps with some slight tweaks. The Hawk branded ones are mid range cards that use a custom PCB and the new Twin Frozr III coolers. They include the best components and power circuitry and some extra unique additions on top such as triple overvoltage.

The Lightning edition are reserved for higher end cards such as the AMD HD69XX series and Nvidia's GTX570/580. They are the flagship cards with custom PCB and Twin Frozr III cooler with bringing all the benefits of the Hawk cards to the high end. The power circuitry is even more robust on the Lightning to cope with more powerful GPUs.

Two of those HD6870s in Crossfire would absolutely fly!

Would this be better than a clocked 6950?
No

No

cheers, still down to two cards :D

Its LARA croft, not laura :P

In the games, yes she was Lara Croft. But Eidos got the name from one of their accountants at the time of development at (I think) Price Waterhouse Cooper - her name was Laura Croft but Eidos changed it to Lara for the game. Maybe the graphics card comes with the latest game in the series which stars Laura doing her accounts rather than Lara running round with guns? Would certainly be a change in direction for the series! :)

I dont care if it's not reference, I am gonna get one for crossfire :D

WIll the payment be taken when stock arrives or as soon as you order it? What are the chances of stock arriving early?

I don't understand the ATI naming system, how could the 5850 be faster than the 6870?

I thought the first digit was generation, 2nd digit was sub generation and the last two indicated power (30 being low, 50 being medium, 70 being high and 90 being top end)

There's not a lot in it though. Shame as OcUK's own HD5850 deal is going to crash the party somewhat.

Nice price!

Worth getting at this price, but not at normal retail - the GTX560 Ti or HD6950 1GB are better options :(
