MSI RD480 - which pci-e slot?

Hello, I've just built a new system around the MSI RD480 Neo2 crossfire motherboard but with the x1800xt in the master slot (the lower of the 2 pci-e slots) I can't use any of the PCI slots.
I've read and re-read the manual and am still confused as to whether the top (slave) pci-e slot can be used if you are only using a single graphics card.

Have any other owners tried using the slave slot for a single graphics card and had it work?

Is there nothing in the bios to slect which one to use?

Yes you can use any slot with 1 x GFX card, it will self configure depending on what slot you whack it in.

Oh, I thought you were limited to the bottom one. I had to do this in my Asus A8V-MPR or whatever (forgotten model name

Not as far as I know mate, it may depend on board to board though

Thanks for all the help, it worked like a charm. The manual for this board is a bit vague.
