MSI's X570 Tomahawk May Become Go-To OC Board??

To clarify it's being put under 1.2.0.1 Patch A. 1.2.0.2 isn't actually being rolled out even though they said it would.

I downloaded and installed:

Version
7C84v161(Beta version)

Description
- Update to ComboAM4PIV2 1.2.0.1
- Improving Ryzen CPU performance

Not sure if that's the one I need but it didn't fix my USB issues.

Yeah that's normal 1.2.0.1 pre USB fix. 1.2.0.1 Patch A will be in a week or so for the Tomahawk.

So I'm returning the drive for a refund. To be fair they did only charge me for the non-pro version and it looks to be an honest mistake in the quoting to invoice process so while it's annoying it's hardly the end of the world. I'll get a 980 pro and clone the drive then send this one back for a refund. Glad that Alex H figured it out otherwise I'd still be here flashing the BIOS and installing random chipset drivers etc. :D
Hi mate max is looknig for you in his laptop wanted thread

I have to say this is one of the most stable and reliable boards I’ve ever owned so far. It’s been amazing. The only thing I don’t like is the way it looks  I keep finding myself look at more expensive boards just because of the aesthetics and 1 more Nvme slot...need to stop myself from doing a potentially pointless upgrade (!).

Anyone else experience lag with USB devices? I'm finding that it's really bad with my Logitech G Pro mouse, but my Logitech MX Master mouse I connect through bluetooth doesn't have any issues at all.

I've tried changing the wireless dongle to pretty much every port on the PC and it's no better, tried changing the polling rate of the mouse and shutting down pretty much all background processes and it's just laggy. Not great in the middle of a game of Warzone and it glitches out so badly that one moment I'm about to shoot someone and the next I'm pointing at the sky, then at the ground a second later. Then.... ded. :/

Any Tomahawk owners have a loose wifi antenna connector on their board?

I've not investigated fully, but there doesn't seem to be any obvious way to tighten it.

Yep, one of the actual connector the antenna screws into has play in it.

Right, hauled my PC up into my eyeline so I could check this out. I don't see any way of getting to the connectors without removing the backplate that's held onto the back of the board with four screws. I suspect that's going to have to be your first port of call, which means getting the board out of your PC's case so you've got some disassembly to do unfortunately.

Thanks, I appreciate you looking.

I think it can stay loose for now :D

I have two similar USB peripheral issues which I think are connected;

1) my logitech wireless keyboard and mouse K850 randomly stops operating/ responding even after resyncing to the dongle and replacing the batteries. Sometimes switching the keyboard off/on helps but not always and I can be in the middle of typing and suddenly no keys are responsive at all. Ive tried the dongle in a work laptop Ive no longer got access to and the set itself is fine.

2) Ive tried ripping a few 4k br's using makemkv and in the middle of the rip the usb br drive disconnects (standard sata drive in an icybox enclosure with external power) - which is really annoying as its usually 30-35mins into a 40-45 minute rip that it happens so is wasting a lot of time. I have tried different discs and while it occasionally completes the rip I would say 5 out of 6 , which were all different and brand new discs, failed due to this disconnect issue.

Like you I have tried both in all three different USB hubs on the motherboard (if my memory serves they are red, blue and black usb ports - I believe the colours signify the different USB speeds and guessed they would all be on separate usb hubs).

The thing I find strange is that there is nothing seemingly in event viewer to say whats happening - even if its just mentioning usb re-connection or something - but as far as I can tell no entries at all

edit - Ive also tried changing mobo PCIE settings down to gen 3 but that hasnt seemingly made any difference so far

Mine seens to have resolved itself. I installed the latest BETA mobo firmware and re-installed the chipset drivers and from initial testing it doesn't seem to have come back... yet. I need to play some more games of Warzone to be completely sure as it would happen around a few games in which in itself is odd (no overheating issues etc).

EDIT: I wonder if something on the mobo is overheating? If it happens again, I'll try increasing the airflow through the case to see if that helps.

Hi guys,
Hoping to get my 5900X and this board soon and have a question. Can the bios be updated if the cpu isn't supported but the cpu is fitted in the board?

I know you can update the BIOS without the CPU. I was wondering if the same procedure would work with a CPU installed. The reason I ask is that I am using a custom water loop and its easier to fit the block with the motherboard and chip outside the case. If for some reason I need to update the bios then this would be the situation.

Many thanks

@The Asgard - if you're putting the water block on outside the case then why not just wire the PSU to the bare board temporarily and update the BIOS, then build everything?

Hi there,
The waterblock will be fitted without the pipes and will be cut to length once it’s installed so it’s nice and neat. Your suggestion is the fallback. Just wondered if it would work.
